I am having my sister gather the necessary documents to co-sponsor my husband for me, since I'm a student and don't make enough money. I have told her that we will need:

1) Letter from Employer re: Date/Nature of employment, salary, position status.

2) Letter from Bank Re: Date account opened, total deposits for the last year, current balance.

3) Copy of recent paystubs (1-2 months)

4) Copy of tax returns (1040) for the past 3 years

5) Copy of W-2s for those 3 tax years

6) Copy of birth certificate

Is this adequate? Anything I'm missing, or that would be helpful? Is it ok to just supply copies of the paystubs, tax returns, w2s? I don't want to have to Fedex any more packages to Egypt after I send this off. :)

Thanks.

Amy

I sponsored my husband on my own and if you consider my hourly wages, I don't make the 125% of the poverty line threshold ( I was about $500/yr too short!). So, I submitted a letter from my employer stating that I make over the required poverty guideline with my hours worked (42/wk @ time-and-a-half for every hour over 40), my paystubs from the last 6 months showing that I have worked overtime, and my tax returns from the last 3 years were from 3 different jobs and I have made less money in the previous 2 years than I do this year and my affadavit of support was approved. I didn't submit a letter from the bank or include any bank statements as I was able to prove my ability to support my husband with my job and the overtime.

The only original I sent to the NVC was the letter from my employer on company letterhead. Everything else was a copy. I don't know if you have different instructions because you said you were going to FedEx your documents to Egypt, but I sent mine to the NVC and they are going to send them to the embassy in Cairo when they approve his DS-230. They shouldn't need them for his interview because the NVC won't schedule an interview for him unless these documents are approved through them first.

Overall, if you are ever unsure about anything, don't hesitate to call the NVC. They have been TREMENDOUSLY helpful to my husband and I in this process. The only thing is they can't tell you which forms to file or anything like that because that becomes a legal issue for them.

I hope that this helps. Good luck!

The documents I'm sending my husband are the ones that the embassy in Cairo requested with his packet 3 for k3 visa interview. We didn't follow up on the I-130 through NVC because we couldn't find a joint sponsor to fill out the I-864, as it requires a longer commitment and all that. So the papers we file are just to the embassy, and they approve or deny him his visa there. I know that I definitely do not meet the income guidelines (I'm in nursing school, so I have zero earned income) so my sister agreed to be joint sponsor. Hopefully they will accept them! Anyway, thank you for your input, I appreciate it :)
