Praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy, I was just also wondering if you knew if it was mandatory for your husband to go to Nigeria to get his police certificate? Do you know if it is possible for my husband to have someone else get it for him or must he go there in person?

Absolutely mandatory now. They won't take fingerprinting from other countries, so he'll have to go and get fingerprinted.

SO got his birth certificate affidavit in less than a day too!!! He'll be back in Senegal by the end of the week!

Ok...if you sit on the computer long enough and read through all the forums you can find answers to it all

It looks like one must go to Nigeria to get one PC and they can get that at the Central Criminal Registry, RM 47 in Ikoyi for around $35 or 5500 N

I'm learning...this is just my second day here but have spent at least 6 hours on it. So much information!

You dont need to travel to Nigeria to get a police certificate if you live in another country. If there is a Nigerian Embassy in the country where you live, you can have your fingerprints done there and they can provide you with a letter or mail off your letter and prints for the police certificate for you. However Nigeria will not accept requests for police certificates from American embassies anymore.

NIGERIA

Police Records

Available, including for those living abroad. The Nigerian police force no longer accepts requests made through the American Embassy.

Requests should be addressed to

The Deputy Inspector General, Criminal Investigation Department, Nigerian Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria.

Fee should be in the form of an international bank draft payable to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Fingerprint Section, Nigerian Police Force.

The applicant's letter must state full name, place and date of birth, nationality, passport number, date and place of issuance (for current passport or passport used during applicant's stay in Nigeria), exact periods of residence in Nigeria and addresses where applicant resided. Each applicant 16 years of age and over must enclose (1) a copy of the first three data pages of his or her passport, (2) the pages containing Nigerian visas, entry and departure stamps and (3) a complete set of fingerprints taken by the police in the district where the applicant resides.

That's what the US says but that's not what Nigeria does anymore. They MUST see the person and take the fingerprints themselves.

Sorry but that's simply not true....My husband is in Italy and didn't have to travel to Nigeria to get his police certificate. The person can appear at a Nigerian embassy in the country they are in and obtain a letter there and obtain fingerprinting at a local police precinct and send to the appropriate Criminal Investigation Department for the police certificate. There's no way they can make people travel from all over the world back to Nigeria just to get a police certificate. Maybe that's the case if the person is living in Nigeria or if the person is in a nearby country. But people in the US and Europe are not having to travel back to Nigeria for a police certificate.

There's always another way......you just have to find it if what your being told makes no sense.
