Provo company shows off electric Hummer in Detroit

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Provo company that makes electric hybrid engines for trucks showed off its new electric Hummer at the Society Automotive Engineers 2009 World Congress in Detroit Monday.

Raser Technologies Chairman Kraig Higginson says his company has been working on this project for several years. The new electric hybrid Hummer is a big, heavy vehicle that gets better gas mileage than most small, fuel-efficient cars

"You can't put a load of Sheetrock or a load of plywood in a Toyota Prius," Higginson said.

Among those in Detroit taking a good look at the electric H3 was California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. "[He] made that comment to me a couple of times: ‘How do I get one? How do I get one? Can I get one of these?' Higginson said.

He says the electric motor will add $12,000 to $15,000 to the base price of whatever vehicle they put it in, but he says government rebates and incentives for fuel-efficient vehicles would help eliminate a good portion of the extra cost.

I also like to add that it'll be out in less than two years!

Wait...The bad news is that it consumes electric energy that is 1000000x times of a regular electric vehicle. So, you're screwed.

I don't understand the hype with all those cars. I'm happy with a mini-car, non-high class. I will know my car will not be a target of vandalism. Well, a small target. They'll aim for the more pricier, and fancier cars first.
