Hi all,

I am a British citizen that is a permanent resident alien here in the states. I have a green card and my wife (US Citizen) and I are expecting our fist child in May.

I understand she (the nipper) will have US Citizenship, but I think she can get UK citizenship too (dual right?). What do I need to do to get that figured out....? Do i register her birth with an embassy or something?

Any help would be gratefully recieved :)

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and if this is in the wrong section maybe someone with omnipitent powers could move it for me that'd be awesome.

OK, I'm glad this thread has appeared, because I have a question along similar lines.

I intend to legally adopt 'er indoors' youngest. Once I've done that, does she then become eligible for a British passport just as she would if I was her biological father?

We're not expecting our baby until November, but we've already been talking and looking in to dual citizenship for him/her.

From what I understand, you report the birth abroad to the consulate. We're still trying to figure it out ourselves, but I hope this helps

My question isn't so much how you go about getting dual citizenship for your child, but if anyone has had any experience with it with their own children? Like did it cause any problems or anything?

Congrats adamn1 on your little girl and good luck with adopting your step daugher, Damian! :)

Sorry for the double post, but I just came across this article that might affect those with dual citizenship -_-

New border controls could penalise Britons with dual nationality

It looks like they've got it covered:

Under e-Borders, you should not see any difference in your travel experience, or have to provide any information which you do not currently provide to your carrier, with the possible exception of your passport details which carriers may choose to request at booking stage. The biographical Travel Document Information that is collected will be the same on both passports (i.e. name, date of birth and gender).

As the e-Borders system is rolled out, it will provide additional capability to reconcile electronically where an individual travels using different documents, so that passengers with dual nationality can be identified.

Hi,

I'm currently 3 months pregnant and really want to go home (UK) to give birth. Will this create a lot of problems when bringing the baby back to America? I'm currently of Permanent Resident Status and my husband is a US Citizen.

I understand that with certain airlines you have to have a doctor's note for travel and this can be arranged by my with OB/GYN. I plan on going before 4 weeks of giving birth and stay in the UK for a couple of months after. Does anyone know where I can obtain some information on what I need to do to fulfil this?

Many thanks!

Hmmm. That's something we're considering as well so I too would like to know the answer to this if anybody has previous experience. I *think* the situation is that with a valid adoption decree, the British embassy can issue a passport to the child but I'm not sure if that's complicated by age, intent to remain in the USA, etc...

I'd be interested to know if anyone's done this.
