What demographic is that? Actually, who the hell watches beauty pagents at all?

I don't. I don't know anyone who does.

I think the demographic watching that ####### is the same that watches dancing with the stars

Have to be honest, I wasn't even aware the beauty pagent was going on until I saw this topic here on VJ. What channel was it on?

Or American Idol.

Oh- so its women, and men like myself who are held hostage for 3 hours a week.

What's your point? That demographics aren't one-size fits all? Who knew...

If the views of the judges are so far removed from the people following the event or sponsoring it, then expect to see a boycott or some other form of protest about it. If they aren't, then nothing will happen.

To be honest Gary, I can't say I really care much whether she lost for that reason or not. It doesn't matter to me a whole lot either way, certainly not to get into a "Liberals" Vs. "Conservatives" argument about it. Storm in a teacup IMO.

Its not as though beauty contests are politically correct at the best of times. They are kind of demeaning to women to begin with...

First of all, I agree that beauty contests are lame. I hate them, never watch them. Second, its a beauty contest, what do lame questions have to do with "beauty"? Third, she gave the exact same answer that President Obama and Elton John did when asked a similar question. The judge asked her opinion and she gave it. The judge was looking for a namby pamby PC response. Why ask it if he didn't want to hear the truth?

Probably for a populist opinion, which I would imagine is why the guy was chosen to judge the contest in the first place.

Seriously though, I don't really mind about the pageants for adults, but the kiddy ones bother me. Who in their right mind would put their little girl in for one of those? They look like dolls, it's rather sad and a bit scary.

Seems odd to me, it's not like your typical librul elite is going to frequent fashion shows is it?

I imagine its because a gay guy is a more politically correct judge of this event than the sort of cigar-smoking, bottom-slapping chauvanist type you'd normally expect.

Dunno, seems that would be what the contest is about, chauvenism - but as I do not get it...

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

They always used to be. I think they're trying to broaden their appeal to keep the event alive.

I agree about the kids pageants though - I don't think those provide the best learning experience for kids.

How do you 'broaden' the appeal of a beauty pageant? Either looking at overly made up, overly exaggerated painted smiles on sleek nubile female bodies does something for you, or it does not. I can't see how the appeal can be broadened into something else. Madness :)

Who? Stupid b1tches who have usually extremely low self esteem and ####### lives --- so let's make little Jasmina work on her inadequacy since she is 3. I find those kiddie pageants beyond disgusting.

Those poor children do not look like dolls; they look like mini-hookers. And it is always nice to know there are "mothers" who are prompt to bring candy to the pedophiles of the world. **.

Agree 100%. Baby pageants are disgusting. Mothers living through their kids is all it is.

How did she 'know' she lost because of her views? Who's to say she would have freaking won regardless of what she'd said in reply to that question? All I see is her opinion that it was because of her answer, so I guess she is the one creating the furore because she's a sore ####### loser.

The judge that asked her the question said she lost because of her answer.

Well he was only one judge...

But as Caladan pointed out - it probably has a lot to do with the image events sponsors want to present. Presumably they didn't want to be associated with those views.

Judge for yourself.

Oh man...I doubt he'll be invited to be a judge in the future. What an #######.
