My mom was around 12 when they first started integrating schools in KC. She can recall white flight, the fight against bussing. What's funny is that the homophobes HATE it when you compare them to the racists of fifty years ago. Like they're any different. But whatever.

who would be offended, the gays for being compared to blacks or the blacks for being compared to gays? either way, it's all bigoted.

with reference to the OP, this chic stated her belief. the question had to be asked with a specific response desired, as are most questions. apparently, the judges, gay or not, want the next symbol of the USA to be someone with more modern, liberal views rather than an old-fashioned type who believes in what will undoubtedly become an anachronism- marriage being solely between man and woman.

Nope. Why ask a question if they can't base their judgment of the contestant on that answer? If it's the wrong kind of question to be asking, then send your gripe to the pageant and complain.

It seems to me they judged her answer as wrong, not - she didn't articulate herself well- which would have been an acceptable reason. The judge is actually dead wrong, because the fact of the matter is that as of now, the majority of America does in fact NOT support gay marriage, and Miss America is supposed to represent America. The judges represent hollywood and their views and apparantly they want someone who does the same.

Imagine for an instant that there isn't the double standard that exists today and a contestant answered the question that she supported gay marriage and it just so happened that the judge didn't so he failed her based on her opinion in that direction. Do you think we would see anything else on television right now other than the coverage of that?

I say that's fair enough. If the contestants don't like how the judges judge, then don't compete. Complaining about how a judge judges an answer is being political correct. She's entitled to her opinion, but the judge is entitled to judge her on it.

What does "gay marriage" have to do with a beauty contest? Why should it even be relevent? Judge her on the T&A and the talent. That is what a beauty contest is.

Miss USA doesn't have a talent portion, so they need to supplement with stupid question/answer session

Anywho, regardless of her being free to express her views on national tv, the question as already stated was about should all states allow it or not. She easily could have side stepped any of it by saying it's a states rights issue or something and let the voters decide. Also, when one of the most openly gay bloggers of all time asks you a gay rights question, you know the answer you are supposed to say. If you aren't comfortable with it then side step the question like several of the other girls did. She may have integrity but she sure is stupid.
