Hello,

I have been here in the States since April 2005 now. Got married and lead a pretty easygoing life here in the States... Adjustment was going just fine, I really feel happy and okay in my new life.

But suddenly it hit me all of a sudden that I haven't seen or hung out with my dear circle of friends "back home".

I am suddenly overwhelmed by a loneliness beyond belief and am so incredibly homesick.

How have you been coping with feelings like these?

All the time, I'm getting use to my new life but miss my friends alot. We are always on line or calling each other but you know is not the same I miss alot those times when we just went out for some drinks or to the beach, most of my friends live near my house (in Lima) so we saw each other all the time. I find people in NY very cold and unfriendly, I know some people but I can't consider them "friends" I arrived here almost a year ago and I have just 1 "friend" she's a mexican girl married to an italian guy (like MY HUBBY) we share alot of things in common and we get along very well, but I still missing my Sami,Marite,Caro,Su they already planning myvisit in December....

So Funny Bee, you are not the only one

When you can, plan a trip home to visit and hang out with friends for a bit. But I guess many times in life we must make choices and not always will we be able to stay in that same comfortable status we had.

Hello Vi, yes that is exactly how I feel. Allthough I try, I just don't come accross people like my dear friends in the Netherlands.

And yes Luis&Laura, choices you make in life entail consequences. Some sweet and beautiful, some lonely and sad.

After the excitement of all the paperwork, and after the excitement of marrying, being in a new country, comes the realization of how sweet my life was before all this.

My new life is sweet as well, but with a soft tone of loneliness, which now more than ever is becoming quite loud.

Though I have only been here since end May 06, I am feeling the same way you are... Life is good here (although boring until I get my EAD so that I can work) but it's just not the same. There are times when I break down and wish that I was home. However, my dear husband is so wonderful that I don't want to be apart from him.

I wish that I could be at home and still be with him. But that isn't going to happen because i am sure he will open his big mouth if he ever needs to stay there for long, says the wrong things and be thrown into jail for saying the wrong things...

*sigh*

Sincerely,

It is a hard adjustment. I came to the usa in dec 2003/jan 2004, and have been here eversince. Even after 2 and 1/2 years I'm still adjusting. It will come slowly. Make sure to join some local clubs, be active and don't stay home being sad because that will make it worse. Remember there are wonderful people out there who want to meet you!

I miss my friends and family too (a lot of my family are also my friends) Its been really hard trying to keep in touch with a lot of them for various reasons, and some of them seem to have dropped off the planet. They don't return emails and they've moved and didn't send me forwarding addresses or new phone numbers, so I just assume they dont' want to talk to me and they're ignoring me :P Which hurts like crazy and I feel very lonely a lot. I don't "friends' here in the US that I can talk to, and sometimes my husband is not very easy to talk to or understanding of what I'm feeling.

I don't reallly have any suggestions for you other than try to get home if you can. Me, I'm leaving on Wednesday afternoon for a week and half trip home. Hopefully I'll be regenerated and feeling better after that. I need a good dose of people who understand me

Hang in there...I've been told it gets better, can't really say if it does tho.

Yes it happenes a lot to be homesick.

I arrived in nov 04 and wanted to go back to see my family and friends in 2005 but found out I was pregnant. I did go in april/may 06 and it was good to see them again!!!!! My home sick got worse because I have now a 6 month old baby girl and none of my parents, sister and friends can enjoy her!

What can we do? Nothing... just planning to go back to Europe to live... when ever that is going to happened.

Meanwhile I talk to my friends and family a lot on the phone (go a subscription on the internet phone) and send a lot of email. It is not the same as seeing them but it is better than nothing. Another thing is trying to go to see your family... if you can afford it.

Maria

Maria, could you be a little kinder next time?

FunnyBeee...I can't imagine what you are feeling, having lived here all my life. But I do know what it's like to miss friends and family. Sometimes the loneliness does get to you...but new ones will come along, not to replace the familiar dear ones but to add to your life...enrich it. I hope you get to see your dear friends back home sometime soon- maybe it will ease the loneliness. Can you talk to them online? Write letters...share pics...maybe if you are able to be online you could webcam with them. Have you talked with your husband about how you are feeling? Do you get out and interest yourself in things in your area? Maybe finding something you're interesting in doing or learning would help. My thoughts are with you :)

Hello everybody,

Thanks for your replies, sharing your stories, and giving out some advice. It is really appreciated by me! You are all darlings...

Reading your stories give me the feeling that I am not alone coping with this.

All in all this is one big adventure, with like everything in life, its ups and downs.

I wonder though if there has been anybody who in the end could not cope with living in the USA and returned to their country (with or without spouse). I always wonder about that...

I always say to myself: "Beee, this is what you have chosen to do, so make the best of it!" And that is what I am intend to do :)

Again thanks all! I wish you too all the best!

I'm here since April 2006, and me too I'm feeling homesick sometimes. I guess it's a natural thing.

I love life here in San Francisco, such a beautiful town, but i do miss my hometown, my friends, my family. And my dog! I can email, call, videochat with my folks, but the dog can't go online, unfortunately

I'm having a hard time now, no AP, no EAD, and i'm bored beyond belief. I hope i will find a job that will allow me to take lots of vacations, but we all knows how that works, here in the US!

Oh, and i don't really call my folks a lot actually. I always feel kinda sad when i hang up... :(

Hello Clownies,

Oh my, San Franscisco is a beautiful city to live in :)

I hear ya, the boredom can be lethal! Thank God for internet!

Me too, when I talk to my peeps on the phone, a feeling of sadness comes over me. Also, because I don't hang out with them, and don't share stuff with them anymore, the conversation is like "how are you? I am fine..." and it almost ends right there!

Hang in there... hope AP and EAD will arrive soon...

Ooofff... Oklahoma and no car... #######!

I am staying all over the US because of my husband's job. But our base is NYC and one does not need a car in NYC.

We have been to cities like Dallas, Houston, St. Louis, Tampa and I was going CRAZY cuz I don't drive a car.

Also when we were in LA, I was stunned of how few pedestrians I saw on the streets...

I LOVE the cities where you see people WALK! Like Boston or Philly or San Francisco and NYC!!!!

That is cute, Lizzy, you are pretty in an English rose kinda way (F) ...

From London to Oklahoma???? OMG... I feel ya girl...
