Hey guys,

As you all know, my SO had his interview this morning. I just talked to him a few hours ago and found out that everything went basically well, but they told him that I made a mistake in the sponsorship papers (I had to have a co-sponsor, so we both filled out the new I-134s and submitted copies of 2006-2008 returns and other financial information). He read the slip they gave to him, but I am so confused as to what they want. They said that the I-134 Affidavit of Support needs to be notarized, although the new form's instructions clearly say that it does not. And they requested the 2006-2008 1040's and wage statements (or tax transcripts) for my co-sponsor's household. I had sent the 1040's and the copies of her W2s. She is married, but her husband is a paint contractor and only makes about $10, 000 a year (she is the main breadwinner, that is why I had her fill out the paperwork and co-sponsor). Since she filled out the I-134, I only included her info. Was this the mistake I made? How do I correct it--just get her to request the IRS transcripts for 2006-2008 (so she doesn't have to worry about copying the entire return)? And if her adult daughter lives with her, are they also asking for her tax information, even if she is a dependent (I am confused by this whole houseshold information request).

From what he told me, this is the only additional information that they need. He said that the lady that interviewed him was very nice and only asked a few basic questions. Does this mean that we passed the interview itself and only have to submit the financial paperwork to be approved? He was given a date of June 4 to come back.

He is going to scan the notice and e-mail it to me so that I can know exactly what they want. I also want to call the Embassy to ask them EXACTLY what they want. Is this a good idea? Hopefully, they will be able to help me figure out what I did wrong. I am hoping that I can also beg for a date sooner than June 4 for him to come back.

Also, when my SO submitted all the paperwork, the worker at the counter told him that he did not need to give them the DS-230. Why is that? I thought this was one of the necessary forms that they had to get back from him. My SO told the guy this, but he just gave it back to him and said that they didn't need it. Is this so?

My SO told me that they looked over all of our paperwork (we had included e-mails, phone records, credit card receipts showing calling card purchases, my travel documents from all three trips to Ghana, letters (original and copies with envelopes) and pictures. He said that they gave him back the letters and pictures and kept most of everything else. Is this the usual process if you get a request for more info (meaning that they keep your information there)? Will we get it back once he goes in with the financial information?

Sorry this is so long and complicated.

I feel disappointed but okay with this. If this is our only problem and as long as I know how they want me to correct it, I feel that everything is well. I appreciate any feedback you guys can give. And thank you for your continued support.

I'm not sure what exactly the slip they gave him saids. But from your notes here, it seems your SO will be approved on his next visit. You just have to submit the financial support that they requested.

I'll suggest asking your co-sponsor to get you copies of her 2006-2008 tax returns, 2006-2008 W2 forms, 'bout 12months of bank statements. Did your SO have these info. at his interview?

Don't feel bad, looks like you have a good chance at your next appointment. Just make sure you both ( you and co-sponsor) provide as many financial documents as you can.

I'm very positive you're not far from getting the visa next time. BEST OF LUCK!!

I am not sure why they want the I-134 notarized since that is no longer required, but, if thats what they want. Do your cosponsor and her husband file taxes jointly? If they do then you need to include his information as well. I would just get the tax transcripts as they are much easier to handle than returns, W2s and other stuff. I don't think you need to include any information about their daughter since she is a dependent.

It sounds like you are approved pending the new I-134s. If you were denied they would have told you.

Good luck getting that new interview date. In all my time on VJ I have seen 1 person move an interview closer and none have been able to move the second interview. It doesn't hurt to try though.

This is normal. Like I said in another post, they do not always take all the forms that they say are required. I don't know why they make you fell them out if they are not going to take them, but that is what they do. Remember, some of these forms are used for other kinds of visas as well, so they may already have the information they are looking for. They only keep what they need. Even if they approved the visa right there they would have kept some of the evidence.

Sorry about the disappointing outcome.

If they take any evidence that was provided, then you are not likely to get it back. It will become a permanent part of your file. I think later on you can petition to get it back if you really need it. Someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong. They took a bunch of our original letters and envelopes. I just made copies before we went so that we would have our own copy.
