Question re: previous names used, please help

So I was born with the last name "Michaels"... but I have used my current last name, "Taylor", my entire life, my birth certificate says my current name (Taylor), my license.. everything. I have never actually USED Michaels, it's just that my parents got married a couple of years after I was born and I had to get my birth certificate reissued at that time with the name Taylor.

So for "Previous names used" on the I-129F, should I just put "None"?

my fiance in Australia has a similar issue.. his license, passport,. everything shows his current name "Johnson", and he has been known with that last name his entire life. he has never used anything different on anything.

but legally his name was "Shaw" until 2008. His Mom got re-married when he was 3 and they just never changed his name legally, but used her new husbands name for him obviously.. and my Fiance has used that name (Johnson) his ENTIRE life, but when he got his passport back in 2007 he had to get his name changed legally to Johnson because his birth certificate said Shaw on it, and they needed the birth certificate to get the passport.

Should he put "None" under "Other names used" too? since all the relevant documents show his current name and because he has never actually USED his previous name for anything?

please put our minds at ease about this, we were going to ship the packet tonight (it's ready to go!!!)

if you had a previous name then write it down, if not then your background check will not be complete and will be delayed because they have to investigate more.....

Ditto to the previous poster. There is no harm in putting the names in "other names used" and it can only serve to speed things along and prevent holdups.

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter

we are just confused because on the VJ guide it says:

"Proof of Legal Name Change if either the US Citizen and/or foreign fiance(e) is using a name other than that shown on the relevant documents. You must give USCIS copies of the legal documents that made the change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree or court order."

But on the 'relevant documents', we are both using our current names. Both mine and my Fiance's birth certificate show our current names.

Should we still put our previously used names, but not include any extra forms related to them?

I'm worried that if under my Fiance I put his previously used name without including any extra documentation, they will send us an RFE... but according to that guide entry we don't need to give any proof since every single document SHOWS the current name

that's why we are wondering why we even need to put previous names used as well

it's more of a worry for my fiances side. if we put "None" under other names used, will anything even be possible to happen regarding that part before the interview? I'd imagine that is only a subject for inspection once the interview comes.. and at that point he has all the evidence encessary and can show that all relevant documents show his current name...

this is killing our brains. lol

Awww, don't get worked up over this. :)

My now husband legally has a coonfusing three word first name, but goes by a completely different nickname in his daily life. We simply listed his nickname as a previously used name, in case it popped up anywhere. Since it is a nickname, there was no documentation for us to send in.

As for your case, if you don't list your previous names, and the names do pop up during their background check (ex. the old name was once linked to your ss#), it may look suspicious.

I wouldn't worry about getting an RFE for now. If you do, then you deal with that when the time comes. Better to be upfront and not look like you are hiding something now.

thanks for that, and to everyone else

that helps a lot, we feel pretty comfortable just putting our birth names in there even and sending it off now :) not going to send my fiances name change certificate since all the relevant stuff shows his currently used name. if it becomes an issue we'll deal with it. for some reason I don't think it will matter.

thanks guys!
