Passport Foto Background colors

It seems a bit strange how one gov't agency likes a white background, then another likes light blue or dark blue.

What is the best color to get? Has anyone been delayed or rejected in visa processing because passport foto was wrong background color?

Letz assume that 2x2 size is correct and not an issue, just regarding color background.

Oh, BTW, it seems that showing the ears is becoming more important now, for ladies with long hair.

Cheers! :star:

In my experience, it doesn't matter. They obviously don't want a photo with you standing in front of the Jungle Cruise at Disney Land, but any plain muted color seems to work. The most rejection occurs due to distance, overexposure/underexposure and position.

The US Department of State claims to require that the background be plain white or off-white.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/guide/qua...uality_876.html

Those are the guidelines that are supposed to be used for US visas and US passports. Different countries have different requirements.

I don't know how strict they are. I've submitted twelve different sets of photos (various passports for family and friends, plus photos used for various steps of the visa and green card process). I always used a white background and all were accepted, so that doesn't tell me anything about how far you have to deviate from the requirements in order to be rejected.

I followed the DOS guidelines to a tee, wouldn't even let my wife crack a tiny smile and she felt naked without her earings. I personally don't give a darn about what background color, size of the face in relationship to the photo size, 3/4 or front view, etc. Just want the darn passport, so whatever they ask for, that is what they get. USCIS at one time was asking for a 3/4 view photo, then they switched to DOS standards. Found it incredible that one agency would adopt another agencies standards.

Now if they can develop face ID software, to give positive identification from a woman with a smile on her face, then my wife can smile. Oh the limits of technology. But haven't figured out why they can't wear earings, wife cheated and wore her hair down over her ears, still acceptable to the DOS and the USCIS. My hair is cut way too short to do that, so I also had to take off my earings. That will be the day when I start wearing earings.

This site has photo requirements for USA as well as other countries. I like the "bare shoulders" example, lol!

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.
