Number of days outside US

My wife is applying for her citizenship based on our marriage. She has been in the US for 3 yrs. The N400 form has a section which asks to list total number of days outside the US. Should we put down only the number of days she has been outside the US after coming her or add the two yrs prior her coming to the US.

Any help is appreciated.

put down only the numbers after she got her 2 yrs green card... !!

Some people have answered this by crossing out "five" and writing "three" and putting down the number of days for the past three years. Others have answered the question literally (my wife included) and put all the days outside the US in the past five years including days prior to initial arrival. In our case, we included an explanation letter that gave them the numbers both ways.
