4.Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years. This should be a single typed page attachment regarding question 18 of the I-129F. Make sure to sign and date it.
^^from the guide

"Describe the circumstances under which you met. If you have not personally met each other, explain how the relationship was established."

^^from the I-129F

"We first met in person in Merida, Venezuela on June 23rd, 2007 when I was studying abroad. I studied there for one month, then lived with him and his mother as my host family for two months. My last trip to visit him was from April 8th to April 15th, 2009."

^^This is what I wrote for #18. I didnt mention that we first "met" online. Should I put that we first met online? I thought since they didn't count that as "meeting" that they wouldn't care to know about that. Then again, when it comes up in the interview, I don't want them to think we were omitting anything. Also, if it fits in the box, do we still need to use a separate piece of paper and sign and date it?

it would probably be a good idea to include the information, that way you are going to be 100% truthful.

If it fits in the box, then you do not need another sheet of paper.

what you wrote is valid, and if it fits in the box then you don't need a seperate sheet of paper. you can write a Evolution of relationship letter and include a timeline of how you meet online until you actually met in person.

that's a good idea, would we both need to sign and date it?

No one responded to this. The declaration of how we met, and the letter of INTENT are different... I wrote a separate letter of intent, dated and signed it, and mailed it to my fiance to include with the I 129F when he send it in.... Would I also need to sign the declaration of how we met since it doesn't fit in the box on the form and will be a separate paper, or would it be sufficient if only he signed it???

I (the beneficiary) never signed the declaration of how we met or the letter of intent, only the USC petitioner. We had no problems with that

BOTH the petitioner AND the beneficiary need to provide signed letters of intent to marry. Omitting one or the other risks an RFE.

Yes, good point! I submitted my own letter of intent and signed it. What I meant was that I didn't sign his letter of intent OR the declaration of how we met.

It doesn't matter where you didn't meet in person (online) it matters where you DID meet in person. What you wrote is fine.

I kept it brief, just enough to fit in the box. I was approved without any problems. I figured that if they wanted a full page story, they would have provided space for a full page story.

yeah, it's not the I-129F that they use to determine if the relationship is bonified, anyway, right? They just want to make sure we've met within the last two years?

Correct. The I-129f is a petition for a visa application. It is to demonstrate you meet the basic "gateway" eligibilty to apply for a K-1 visa. One of those criteria is that you have met in person in the last two years. The proper place to describe your "meeting" online, any other online relationship, phone calls, etc., is in the evidence presented at the interview.

I am aware at some consulates people recommend so called "front loading" by adding much evidence to the petition thereby assuring it ends up on the "other side of the glass" at the interview. You can check the regional forums and see if you think such is needed for the consulate you will use.

Letters of intent should also be brief, we used EXACTLY the VJ sample letter of intent for both of us, changed names of course as appropriate. The foreign fiancee does not need to sign the attachment for question 18, only the letter of intent and the G-325a.
