Hey everyone! :-) Apologies if this has been posted couldn't see it among the topics. I'm sure alot of us are all going through it! Any ideas on making last minute cash for expenses involved? savings of course help *But* theres lots of other things as we all know and its better to a little over what we need than not enough!

Main question i'm asking is; As i'm leaving England is it worth looking to see if any Tax rebate is owed to me? The way i see it i'm not going to be taxed here anymore but obviously in US instead! I can imagine this being one of those things where if you don't ask you don't get LOL!

Once you know the date you will be leaving the UK file form P85 to claim any tax due to you. This also tells them that you are no longer resident in the UK.

You can get the form from the Inland Revenues website.

jamie doesnt think this is worth the effort since the tax year just started on the 6th of april. he could be leaving the uk in 2 weeks. he doesnt make tons of money, but if it's like £50 that he could potentially get back, i think it'd be worth it. but i have no idea of what the figure might be.

did i read that the p85(?) is okay to file even once you have left the UK?

jamie is in the process of selling some of his things. guitar amps, um.. well maybe just that one thing. so hopefully that will net him some cash.

i have to say that when i picked up sticks in seattle and moved back to the east coast, i donated a lot of my things to a local homeless shelter and a battered women's home. they were really happy to take my microwave and my tv stand and other things i was not shipping back to vermont.

We sold a lot of stuff on Gumtree and Ebay before we left. My mountain bike, our 1968 Morris Minor, his scooter, one of the guitars, a sewing machine, the PS2, region 2 DVDs and on and on... We managed to rack up over a thousand quid selling our stuff. We also donated everything not worth selling but still worth something to a local charity, like our decrepit coffee table, bed frame, desks, chairs, an unbelievable amount of clothes, etc. It was fantastically liberating, but we still ended up shipping 20 boxes of stuff, no idea how that happened... Oh yeah, now I do -- he had to bring all his junky (excuse me, vintage) hi-fi with him over here.

Yes, you can certainly do your P85 from outside the UK. In fact, most people who do file it do so from outside the UK. It's worth a punt!

WOW! My first topic and you guys are AwEsOME! Thanks soO much! Definitely will do! :-) gonna file for the p85 once i know the date! Absolutely even if its a little amount its better than nothing! Things to sell wise i have an old moped right at the back of my garage buried under tons of stuff and no budget film props! It's worth selling ifs been sitting there soo long!
