My husband's last name sounded better so I took his! :P

Seriously though, I adopted his last name because we felt that it's just right now that we are married.

I notified all contacts including academic organizations I am a member of.

I took my husband's last name but still use my maiden name professionally. It was not a big deal to us, even though at first he said it was. Once we got married I procrastinated for about 5 months before actually changing it, and when I showed him my license with his name he was like "I didn't know you were changing it" :bonk:

I made out like a bandit with my last name change.. jumped up 10 letters in the alphabet!! I was near the end, now I'm near the beginning.. YEAH

Same here! I went from M to B

I did the opposite - moved from a D to an S.

My maiden name is SUPER common and short, therefore easy to spell/remember. My maiden name is Portuguese and longer, but it's spelled exactly like it sounds.

I'm a traditionalist and will take my husband's last name.

Well, my last name will still start with a B, so it was an easy decision. If his last name was something near the end of the alphabet, I might've questioned my traditionalist views.

I'm confused... why does it matter whether your last name is near or close to the end of the alphabet?

I had my last name for about 30 years.. I was tired of it and wanted a change so I took his name :P

I like my new name but it is kind of a pain because it isn't spelled like it sounds so I have to spell it out a lot.. or people pronounce it wrong, like I did when I first saw his last name... it wasn't until a few months later that I learned how to say it correctly

Oh, grrrrr....I don't understand how my new last name...4 measly letters....can cause so much pronunciation troubles. Because the "s" is pronounced differently in German than in English people generally spell my name wrong or if they see it they say it wrong.

I'm confused... why does it matter whether your last name is near or close to the end of the alphabet?

I was wondering the same thing.

haha me too. I was thinking the only time I noticed is when I was in school. You have to wait longer for the teacher to call your name. ?

I'm not changing my name. In Islam, the women don't change their name. The children have the father's last name though. In MENA people are usually addressed by their father's name.

And how do you know when the letter has gone too far? There has to be a cutoff somewhere... like anything past *S* and no way! Screw my traditionalist views i am NOT mingling with the T's in the phone book!

Okay, so far not one male name change in the vote. What would you all think of a man that had changed their last name (either hyphenated or entirely took their wife's name)?

I'm the USC so it's much easier for me to change mine. He offered to change his but I said no because of the hassle with changing his passport and dealing with USCIS for it. I told him we can look at a new last name when we remove conditions or at citizenship.

"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.
