hi everyone

my fiancee submited my application on 22 sept 2008. after couples of month she got letter that petition is approved and send to home country of your fiance i.e India, US conulate mumbai.

i got the packet 3 from US consulate mumbai on 04 feb 2008. i fill up all details and send it back. than after i waited for one month for packet 4 but didt got any reply. when i enquire they told me that they have dispatch my appointment letter since 24 feb 09, which i never recieved.

than i went personally to US consulate mumbai, information desk and collected packet 4 and appointment letter on which my interview date was schedueled on 15 april 2009 at 7.30 am.

Interview day

i went inside US consulate mumbai and they call my name, i went to counter. submitted my affidavit of support letter, than they ask me for medical. i gave them Xray they told me dat they want small blue envelope. i told them i already submitted that to VFS 10 days back prior to interview and show them the letter which i was given from VFS. than they manage to find my medical report. than they ask me original I-129 F, i told them that was submitted by my fiancee in US, i only have a copy. he told me give that copy, than he argue why this I-129 f form is not stamped. i told him that they didt stamped on this form. my fiancee was only issued the reciept of payment of 455 $, which i showed them. than anyhow after lots of discussion he accepted the form and told me to wait for interview.

waiting for 4 hours, my name was announce at 11.15 and went to counter. Visa office was friendly and asked me the questions:-

who is applying for you?

how did u met?

when did u met?

so why you getting married so late?

how many times you guys met?

why you want to get married in US only and not in any other country?

what is your fiancee doing?

what kind of work she is doing?

than she said congratulations, you get the visa and your passport will be courier in next 2 working days.

now here the problems start. one of the indian staff came and started talking to Visa officer something related to my case. than Visa officer gave me my passport with white form and told me that we will give u a call within one week, than go to VFS to submit your passport. Visa officer told me as they have to do some Administrative Work in my case, so cant issue visa now.

i was so upset, dont know what was wrong but i realised they have misplace my original petition form I-129 which was send from USA to mumbai US consulate. i was going back to my gujarat state in evening by train. as US mumbai consulate called at my residence number in the afternoon around 4 pm and told my mother that your son has got the visa , send him again tomorrow morning at 7 am on window 8.

next day i went at 7 am on window 8 and submited my passport, the officer told me to wait outside. i waited till 10.30 but my name was not announce and than i enquire at 11, they told me to wait for few more times. than at 11.15 they announce my surname but with wrong name. after 10 minutes they announce my correct name and told me to come at window 12. when i went inside there was one gujarati staff and he apologise for announcing my wrong name.

he told me that you can go now and you will get your passport thru courier in next 2 days. i told them that i am waiting from morning 7am and now you are saying me to go home. i want my passport today only, so he told me that i can collect from VFS in the evening at 5 pm.

i went at VFS at 4pm, big que for passport collection and finally got my passport with proper name and visa at 5.30

I GOT THE VISA BUT TO BE HONEST NOT AT ALL SATISFY BY STAFF WORKING AT MUMBAI US CONSULATE. I THINK AT THE END OF DAY ITS INDIAN STAFF ONLY WORKING AT US, SO WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT. BECZ OF THEIR CARELESS, I HAD TO SUFFER A LOT.

a ) Congratulations !!!

b ) Thank you for the detailed report of your experience - that can certainly help others

c ) Although you got your visa, you seem somewhat upset regarding the process you went through. Please keep in mind that you got your visa relatively quickly compared to many who are waiting much longer at each stage of the process than you have. Be happy!

Congratulations! Be VERY thankful that your inconveniences were so minor in comparison with what others go through. And yes, please fill in your timeline.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
