Hey everyone

I'm working on filling out the form I-129F and the first question which should be the easiest to answer lol it got me a lil confused! so they ask for my family name, first name and middle name, but I have two last names!.... lets say my name is Marcos Alejandro Suarez Ortega.. SO I decided to put it like this.... Suarez (family name) Marcos (first name) Alejandro (middle name), but then there is question that says All Other Names Used (Including names by previous marriages)... Should I put my other last name that would be Ortega? or is it just names by previous marriages? .. sorry if this question is dumb, but I just want no mistakes in the forms!

Thanks

I don't think it's a dumb question - I would suggest you put both last names especially if this is how your name appears on all other legal documents. Put last name as Suarez Ortega and avoid any potential problems. Good luck!

List your "name" exactly as it appears on your passport. The "other" names is for any other names you use/used. If your passport does not include "ortega" then don't include it in your name. However, for "other names" do not just out "ortega" you need to put the whole name used.

Yes, and type the family name in all CAPS, as in SUAREZ ORTEGA, if that's how it appears on your passport. Often people are confused on this issue. Think of it as having one family name containing two words rather than two last names. I know the two-word last name is derived from two family names but it is now one family name.

will this have an effect on what my last name will be when we get married?

No.

Typically the woman uses the name of the man after marriage (or not, it is her choice) and the man's name remians unchanged. I suppose it would be legal for the man to change his name also. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Marriage does not change any names unless you want it to. But your choice is limited to your name or that of your spouse.
