Is K3 even worth doing anymore?

Could this thread be pinned at the top of the K-3 forum? The question comes up at least once a day and the discussion is always exactly the same.

In my case, the K-3 slowed down my processing significantly at VSC- I missed the chance to be transferred to CSC with all of the other I-130 filers last fall and it wound up taking 7 months. Both petitions were approved at the same.

Every time I called USCIS the customer service agent would ask me why I filed the I-129f. Some would tell me that it was pointless and others actually had no idea that the K-3 even existed but that may just say more about the poor training of their employees.

IF you don't need to work right away

IF you don't need to be able to drive right away

IF you won't be able to meet the requirements of the I-864 (which you'll have to meet within 2 years anyway when you adjust status AND many embassies apply the guidlines of the I-864 to the more vague I-134 anyway) and

IF the wait for a CR-1 interview would be significantly longer than for a K-3 at your particular embassy...

THEN go for the K-3.

For nearly everyone else the CR-1 is the appropriate choice.

Hi,

Does anyone on this thread speak, read and write Russian?

My fiancee is Russian, living in Kazakhstan. She hasn't learned English yet. We're getting married in Kazakhstan in August. She has a daughter 18 years old, who wants to come to the US in about 2-3 years.

She is on a Russian Womens Forum, and they told her the CR1/1R1/I-130 visa would take 2 years, maybe 5 years, so we decided to go the K3 route.

This thread says that the CR1 now takes no longer than the K3, pluse you save the $1000. I believe it, but my fiancee really trusts the Russian Womens Forum, and they are saying 2-5 years. Can somebody on here write to her in Russian and explain the new turnaround time for the CR1 process? Or better yet, talk to her on Skype?

thanks in Advance

John H

If you are not really in a rush to work when you are here, K-3 is fine.
