Hi-

After an 8 month process, my fiance's visa was approved, and he is coming here May 7th. It is definitely cheaper to buy a round trip ticket, than a one way ticket- but I am concerned that this would raise some kind of red flag, or cause problems with the visa security. Anybody know about this? Thanks.

No red flags.

Your coming with a K-1 visa - so your intending on staying - right?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I think most of us who go trough here buy round trip ticket becasue they are cheaper.

Buy the round trip ticket and just dont use the return leg. It wont cause any red flags.

Flights right now from your area aer about a third of what they were. Isnt that great

It won't matter at all to any immigration official whether the ticket you use to enter on a K1 visa is round trip or one way. When buying tickets in the US, it's often less expensive to buy a round trip and not use the return. Buying abroad, the opposite is often true. Suit yourself.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

No problems. Buy whatever is cheapest. You can alwasy "forget" to use the return ticket. Make sure you originate the flight in your fiancees country. Buying a round trip form the USA and using only the "return" ticket does not always work. The airine may cancel the ticket if she is not on the "outbound" flight.

Depending what airline you use, you can buy refundable round trip ticket, a little more expensive but still cheaper then one way, then cash out the unused return trip once you are here.

In the end your flight ends up costing you very little if you have the patience to wait 4-6 weeks for the airline to send you a refund check.

My fiancee is coming in 11 days, I purchased round trip tickets, because it is cheaper. I plan on, if anyone asks, saying the purpose for purchising round trip tickets and not negotiating them is that I had to ensure that if something happened that the K-1 visa is only valid for 90 days and I had to make sure if for some reason we did not get married, my fiancee would have the means to return home! <<Not that that would happen, but>> That's my story and I am sticking to it!!

Pick a return date at an off peak time to get the cheapest round trip ticket. It didn't seem to matter that my husband booked his "return" about 5-6 months later. Fares usually are cheaper in fall, so compare prices with fall "returns" over peak travel in the summer or try before the last week of May on a weekday. You might get a cheaper ticket if you experiment with the return date.
