I think this has been answered elsewhere but if I remember right 6 months. But if she desires to obtain citizenship, she will need to be a resident here for a certain amount of time without any absences.

Not more than a year. If she is out of the country for more than a year she will lose her status and will have a problem coming back here. I stayed in Pinas for almost 5 months.

Depends. The "rule of thumb" is to get an advance parole if you will be out of the country for more than 6 months. We have specifically asked about our son who is a student in Moscow and they (the local CIS office that has our case now) has told us that for a student it is OK if he is out of the country less than one year.

for permanent residents, the document is actually called re-entry permit, not advanced parole.

For absences of 6 months or more, you should apply and receive your re-entry permit before you leave the US
