Has anyone here ever changed the last name on the baby's BC, when it is an "illegitimate" baby being cared for by single mom?

THe "father" is completely uninvolved and uncaring.

Its better to have the motherz last name for the baby, instead of the absent fatherz name for visa/immigration purposes to US.

Is it as easy as going to the NSO office and making an application, or must a lawyer and the court be involved?

Baby is filipino and in Philippines. THanks ahead, and more power! :star:

I did try that before but needs court hearing to change name and takes money and time to do that. So what I did was I had an affidavit stating that my kids although using the father's name is an illegitimate child and was accepted at the USEM.

You need a lawyer for that one and few hearings. The cost is not really that expensive.

The birth certificate would still show the original last name (father's name) with annotation. Annotation shows the new last name.
