"After 11 years of living illegally in the United States, it was not until Gerardo Arreola Gonzalez was nearly deported that he finally received permission to work here.[...] Arreola was one of 28 illegal immigrant workers arrested in February after agents from U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement raided a car engine repair business.[...]And the same immigration agents who had arrested the workers, she said, now promised them visas that would allow them to work temporarily in the U.S."

Homeland security drove them to a place that offered help for them to file their work visas. Under which category?

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

 This does not surprise me one bit ! One lady who was going to get deported here, was able to get a visa because her husband used to beat her up in her country.

It makes me fuming!!!

I have been here for almost 7 years and had to jump through so many hoops all along to keep my legal status, like all of us on VJ. Since when people are rewarded for a felony?

Oh, and what about the free help they got to file their work visas? How about us who have to spend hours doing it ourselves and hiring a lawyer?

The article doesn't mention that the day after the raid, more than 100 US citizens applied for the vacant jobs. *sigh*

Welcome to America. If you are Mexican or any equivalent Northern South American nation, you get a free pass. Point this out or question this bias and then you are racist.

PS I hadn't even read the article and guess they were from.

It's a disgrace.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Latin American is made up of a range of countries with various cultures, so where they are from makes a huge difference. aka culture.

Yes, if they went through the legal channels they would have had to wait in line just like everyone else. But this article is an example of one specific group of people working the system.

I am still curious on the category the government made for them to get their work visas. I have never heard of that before!

This is setting a precedent that soon thousands will try to follow...

It is the same category that hundreds of thousands of them use to live in this country, it's called BS coupled with moronic politicians.

I laugh at cases like this because on one hand you have the following: (love the guys smirk)

Yet on the other hand we have Americans living in tent cities like this throughout the country:

Good on the guy for capitalizing on America's stupidity though.

It is revolting. Why aren't the American people protesting?

Unfortunately I cannot answer that without offending anyone.

I should write a thesis on this. "The unraveling of America: How morons took down their own country without a single bullet being fired".
