How is the POE decided? Is there an advantage to coming through a certain one? My fiance and I have talked about me flying to meet him somewhere such as NYC. But there is also the possability of him flying to our home which could bring him through Detroit, Atlanta, or Cincinnati.......

Thanks for any advise you can give,

Robin

Your fiance Zia is gonna decide where to enter US. It does not matter which POE.

They do process the immigrant visa (I guess his is K1) in the same way.

GOOD LUCK !....

Don't know if it's still happening but JFK used to stamp a Employment Authorization in your passport.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

It's decided when flight arrangements are made. From an immigration perspective, all ports of entry are equally able to provide the service, and it doesn't matter which one you choose. If you fly on any commercial airline, they'll go through an appropriate port of entry.

Most of the time, the port of entry is the first place where the the first airplane first touches US soil. It's never later than that, but sometimes it can be earlier.

There are a few ports of entry (technically the word is preclearance stations, but they serve the same function as ports of entry) located outside the US. Preclearance stations are located at most major Canadian airports, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Aruba, and at Shannon and Dublin, Ireland. If your flight to the US leaves through an airport with a preclearance station, you'll go through US immigration inspection before boarding the plane. Once you get on board the plane, you're effectively on US soil, and you don't have to undergo further immigration processing when the plane lands in the US.

If you don't mind, can you post here to let us know if he is able to use that to work or not. I've been reading and it appears that the stamp is not enough to allow a person to work here due to some new laws that went into effect recently. We will be sure my fiance comes through JFK if there is a chance that he can get that stamp and work right away. It's hard to wait months.........

Thanks

My fiance arrived Saturday at JFK and they stamped his passport with the EAD

Yes, I will probably go to Cincy or Lexington to pick him up. It's much closer to me. I didnt know if I could be of any help to him at the port of entry though. Generally he will touch ground before he gets to Cincy. He would be leaving from Islamabad, and most of those flights go through Atlanta, Detroit, or New York.

Thanks

How about Emirates from KarachiIslamabad-Gatwick (through Dubai) on Emirates connecting to Gatwick to Cincinnati and you drive to Cincinnati to pick him up?
I checked the Wiki entry about Bhutto (Islamabad) Airport. Airblue, PIA and Emirates all have flights from there to Dubai (so only modification made in my original reply).
