I think it is a good service they they do try to accommodate walk-ins, however, IMHO, if people start to abuse this, and go early to try and hurry their cases along, or just because it is a little more convenient at another time, it is likely that walk-ins will become much "stricter".

Agreed. I think going in early than your scheduled bio appointment had no bearing on the processing time as a whole. I'm pretty sure USCIS is aware of this and they are aware that applicants would try to expedite the process to benefit their own cases, even if they are not priority and there are people who filed before them whose cases are still pending and backlogged.

Fingerprinting doesn't take too long.

It is machine to scan the fingers, send it to FBI, and receive the result within 24~48 hours.

It is different from FBI namecheck, which will take a while.

So walk-in doesn't make big difference in processing time.

Normally walk-in is allowed for people to miss their appointment for business trip or other personal issues.

And you should have fingerprint notification letter to proceed.

Also depending on ASC office, they may not allow walk-in earlier than scheduled.

Basic 101 for USCIS is to follow their rule.

Don't assume anything for your convenience, or break the rule.

Anything outside of norm may delay your processing time.

Follow their rule. not your own rule.
