I think it depends on the office. In Alexandria I saw a sign that they only would see you if you had a same day appointment. But I don't have any experience how they would react if you walked in on another day. Since you don't live far away, you can always give it a try. For me it would have been five hours wasted on the road if they sent me away.

What's the point of doing a walk in? Does it make your file go any faster? Does it change anything? Curious

Some ASCs only handle certain types of applications on certain days. Keep in mind that fingerprinting for N-400 is more time intensive than the biometrics for the I-751.

My wife got her notice on Monday for an appointment next Saturday. Two weeks isn't too bad a wait and I doubt doing a walk-in would have that much impact on her interview date.

I doubt that it makes a huge difference in your timeline since invitations for fingerprinting are usually sent out shortly before the actual appointment. So you might gain a few days, I don't know. But the other advantage might be that you could go at a day and time which is convenient for you.

I'm happy a lot of you were able to make walk-ins but can tell you that it wouldn't have been possible at my Brooklyn, NY center. It was way too crowded and the space was small. They were sending back peple even if the appointment was 2hrs later. No way you would've made it in if you did not have an appt letter for that day. So, it really depends on the center. It's definitely worth the try. Not that it would get things done faster but just to get it over with.

Also, I did the exact same FP for I751 and N400, the procedure itself took 10 minutes.

Four years ago, when my wife did her AOS, they used to let you make your own appointments for fingerprinting. My wife has her fingerprints done two days after we got our receipt notice. It still took almost a year to get her green card. So, I didn't get the impression that having the fingerprints done quickly sped things up overall. In fact, my wife was sent back for a second biometrics appointment after the interview.

Usually the biometrics appointment is about a month after you sent off your application. That would mean that you should have your biometrics appointment by the end of this month. I would wait and see what's going to happen. I'm pretty sure you'll get an invitations soon and get fingerprinted before end of May. Unless you have been fingerprinted in the past 15 months. Then you might skip the biometrics appointment altogether (this seems to vary case by case).

from my experience, it didn't speed things up. It didn't change anything as they go by the date they receive your application and will place the A-file back in queue. The point of doing a walk-in is it gives you flexibility especially if you have other appointments on the day of your biometrics or if you think you can't make it that day and convenience. That's about it, imho.

The information I received from the USCIS information line was:

*that normally it was up to the discretion of the office whether they let you do a walk-in, however, on Wednesday afternoons they HAD to let you do a walk-in. However, I am unsure if this also applied to before your appointment date - my inquiry was related to after having missed the set date.

*You MUST have already received the bio appointment letter, and take it with you - I didn't have the actual letter, however I did have the written response to a service request which had a print out of the appointment info.

Personally, I think the appointment system for bio's is set up so that you don't experience long delays, and they have a steady stream of "customers". I think it is a good service they they do try to accommodate walk-ins, however, IMHO, if people start to abuse this, and go early to try and hurry their cases along, or just because it is a little more convenient at another time, it is likely that walk-ins will become much "stricter".
