My fiance lives in Cebu. She passed her K-1 interview at the Embassy in Manila on Monday, April 13. Obviously we were thrilled and relieved after all these months of waiting. We were expecting to receive her visa from Air 21 shortly since her friend, who also lives in Cebu and also passed her interview on Monday, received the visa yesterday.

Instead, my fiance got a call yesterday saying she had to return to the embassy and be refingerprinted because her fingerprints were unreadable the first time. Arrrgh!

I did do a search before posting this. Apparently this has happened to a few other people, however, I could only find cases where it has happened to people already in the U.S. who were applying for adjustment of status.

So, I have two questions:

1. Has anyone here ever had to return to the Manila Embassy to be refingerprinted after an interview?

2. If the fingerprinting fails a second time, how many times can they keep calling her back? I read that people applying for AOS in the U.S. can request ink fingerprints if the electronic ones fail a second time. Can my fiance ask for this at the Manila Embassy as well?

Thanks for any help!

Congrats!

1. yes - plenty of people have "mushy" fingers - and have to redo them.

2. They will do it till they are happy with them. If they fail to get them, they will get them the old fashion way. (make sure she doesn't have any hand lotion on, that messes with the scanners)

It's up to them what they want to do.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

During my interview, after the CO gave me the pink slip, she informed me that i have to undergo finger printing again. Since it was lunchtime, i have to go out, take my lunch and comeback again. I only waited for few minutes and i heard my name called for finger printing.

Tell you fiancee to ask the person taking her finger print to ensure that everything is captured properly. If not, ask the alternative. Your fiance should also inform the USEM personnel that she is from Cebu. It requires a lot of effort to come back to Manila again.

Based on my experience, I find the USEM personnel to be accomodating. All you have to do is ask and inform them of your concerns.

Hope this helps.

it's impractical to go back to manila just for the fingerprints but it looks like she really has to do that before the visa is issued and sent to cebu...too bad they didn't see problem during her interview...but then she can complain about this inefficiency of the people doing the fingerprint...after she gets her visa =)

She needs to come back and have have her finger scanned again. After my interview, I got a pink slip, paid Delbros and then I went home expecting to get my visa after three days. The next day, I got a phone call from the US Embassy. They wanted me to come back and have my fingers scanned again because they were not satisfied with my fingerprints. Oh well, I went to the US embassy again and waited for 4 hours before my name was finally called. I got my visa after 8 days. :star:

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

EXCELLENT advice. Have her stay there until USEM has the prints right! Shouldn't be a biggy for them to check and see if the prints are good enuf while she waits.
