Hey there guys...

When I finally get my visa thru and fly out to America, I could really do with working asap

How quickly can i work and what do you need to do exactly? I know i'll need to apply for an SS no, but I've had a SS no. in the past due to working on 2 J1 visas.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

SSN is good for life. You will need to file for EAD tho. Best to marry ASAP and file for EAD, AP and AOS. Check the GUIDES here on VJ.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

As stated above, your ss# is yours for life.

However, you need authorization from the department of homeland security to work after entering on a K-1 visa. You get this by filing to adjust status. Included in the price of adjusting status ($1,010) are your EAD (employment authorization document) and AP (advanced parole /travel).

Then you have a SSN. The number will not change and there is no need to get a new one. It will be 2-6 months after filing AOS to receive a green card. You can file for an EAD at the same time, but it will also be 2 months or more from filing (my wife got her green card first) You can file AOS immediately after getting married. You can change your name on the SS card after you get married.

in the meantime when you get here, start looking for jobs, it's quiet difficult right now to find jobs even for American people, so unless you have the hook ups, start looking first before worry about the EAD stuff....

Your EAD is your temporary working "visa."

You will not be able to work until that is approved and received.

2-4 months, approx., after filing for the EAD or AOS (or both) No, there is no temporary work authorization. It is best to get married and file AOS and EAD together. Filing the EAD first costs an extra $340 and the EAD (if received before the I-94 expires) will only be good until the I-94 expires. You could pay the extra $340 and get virtually nothing for it.
