Honor system now. Without looking or thinking about it more than a few seconds, which do you remember? The total number of dollars you paid in Federal income taxes in 2008 or the effective rate?

I hear what you are saying and I suppose some people are that thick...but anyone who even mildly pays attention to their car payments, for example, or their mortgage, should understand the difference.

So how much money do we have to make to be considered upper class?

I believe it's around $250,000.

Edit: I mean...you need to make more than that before you'll even seen an increase.

Remembering a figure and understanding percentages are two different things, my good man. In other words, maybe to some, they are satisfied with only remembering the number while others, like myself, who may not remember the actual tax rate, understand that the amount I paid isn't a reflection of whether my taxes actually went up.
