hi! i am a 27 year old foreign student (originally from england) on an F1 visa, currently living in arizona.

on 05/21/09 my F1 visa & optional practical training (OPT) both expire and i will start the 60 day grace period. this should give me until 07/21/09 to work things out if i want to stay.

i am looking at my change of status options and it appears that a H1B workers visa is probably the best route to go. i do not have a bachelors degree (i have an assiociates in film & photography) but still it seems that this visa would be my best option as i know some video/photo producers in town who may sponsor me.

1. what other options do i have for a change of status?

2. what is my deadline for getting the change of status in process? 07/21 right?

thanx!

englishinaz H1 is probably a good idea, but they only give out so many of those a year and when they are gone they are gone until next year. So the sooner you can apply for it the better. You will need a sponsor and then legally you can only work for that sponsor. They will probably want to talk with some immigration lawyers.

My husband's company brought him over from England almost 3 years ago. We's on an O 1 visa which is rare and somewhat difficult to get. It took him 3 months for the O 1 to go through. He was here visiting me when the company decided to hire him. They told him he had to leave the country and enter on the correct visa being the O 1 not a visitor visa.

Hope that helps,

Shelly

An H1b requires a bachelor's degree. Also "H-1B classification applies to persons in a specialty occupation which requires the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge requiring completion of a specific course of higher education."

You have to be sponsored by an employer, you can't petition yourself.
