Would be grateful for any help, here's my situation ,the appointment for the Medical is supposed to happen next Tuesday , my 17 year old son told me today that he took a line of coke on Sunday last. He said he doesn't know why he tried it that he knew he had made a terrible mistake immediately. I am so worried now, apart from the obvious that he would do this at all, but Im scared we will be turned down for the visa because of this . Does anyone know if they specifically test for drug's at the medical? The medical fee's have gone up also so I could be handing over 1120 euro for nothing , should I cancel the appointment altogether ? I just don't know what to do.

a blood test will be performed and drugs do show up during blood tests, i'm not sure how long coke stays in the system, maybe some drug experts can help answer this....

Firstly, I would give him a shoe up the backside for being such an idiot and putting you through all this worry!!

If I'm being perfectly honest, I think I would re-schedule the appointment, but then again - what's to stop him doing it again? So maybe there should be reprecussions. Go to the medical and let him face up to what he's done. if it shows up, he'll have to apply for a waiver and a whole lot of forgiveness from you.

P.S. How much is the medical now? It was €317 a few weeks ago when I rang Cork, where are you going?

But how will he pass the question "Have you ever taken any drugs not prescribed by a doctor for you?"

As PushBrk says, never lie.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help , yes I totally agree about not lying , I feel like throttling him for this but it's done now and I've been here before with my 3 adult children during their teens so I know that mistakes happen, I feel most upset that he did this knowing how stupid a decision it is to do any kind of drug and I know my fiance will be very disappointed by this as my son is a good lad and has never got into any trouble before. The woman I spoke to in Dublin told me this morning its 350 euro each for my son and myself as well as 210 euro each for my two younger son's, I think it's a ridiculous amount of money to charge but that's Ireland for you , God knows what it'll be by the end of the year.

I totally agree lying is not the way to go, answering "Have you ever taken any drugs not prescribed by a doctor for you?" is something you have to decide for you self, yes or no. I would only recommend making sure he has nothing in his system for the medicals, having a report that shows any narcotic in his system is one big red flag!

Good Luck.

Actually, they do ask about illegal drugs like cocaine and whatnot. If he is honest, he would have to say "yes, last week/month" or whatever and this will put you in a very very sticky situation. Lot of VJ folk have been denied because of a "once in a lifetime" try of "recreational drugs". Google "grounds for inadmissibility" and "drug abuse".

Here's what I found on the Internet:

There’s no one exact answer, how long traces of cocaine stay in the body. Usually there is a series of factors that increase or decrease the time. Here is the list of these factors: your age, sex, weight; state of health; are you occasional or habitual cocaine user; how much cocaine you consume; how long have you been using cocaine; other medicines you take on a daily basis; your personal metabolism speed.

As you can see, it’s simply impossible to calculate the exact number of days in which cocaine will be totally removed from your body.

You can find information telling cocaine stays in your body for just 2 or 3 days in press. This information is just partially correct. Indeed, cocaine stays in the system for just several days, but our body produces a chemical called benzoylecgonine after every cocaine intake. This element can stay in our bodies for a month or more. Certainly, all modern drug cocaine tests check not only cocaine presence, but benzoylecgonine as well.

If you want to know roughly about how long does cocaine stay in your system, this list will be handy for you:

If you take cocaine occasionally, it will be present in your system for at least 72 hours

Urine tests show the presence of cocaine within 1-3 days from the date of intake in case you take cocaine rarely or for the first time. If you take cocaine frequently, your urine test results will be positive for 10-12 weeks

Your hair keeps cocaine up to 3 months from the date of intake

I would delay the medical appointment.

Have a heart to heart talk with your son and the entire family together; you all need to pitch in to help get through this.

I would not endorsed any of these Detoxifying Products but you may want to purchase a Drug Detection kit.

Drink plenty of water. Eat healthy foods.

As far as how to answer the did you use drugs question? Some of us never did anything in our lives, some of us experimented, some of us made mistakes. You do what you feel is morally right that you can live with your decision.

Thanks everyone for the reply's ,I'm going to reschedule the appointment . Only thing is our petition expires on the 11th of May so Ill have to hope they will extend it as there has to be 2 to 3 weeks between the medical and the interview . Teens really have a way of keeping you on your toe's.

That's probably a good idea. Your son needs to be aware that the consequence of the medical examiner becoming aware he's used illegal drugs would be a three year ban from US entry.

I cannot comment for all medicals. At my wife's in Kiev, YES. She was then specifically asked if she had used any illegal drugs. From what I have read here, the worst case is to have the test come positive and then lie about it. They will not necessarily tell you at the medical. Drug use can result not only in denial but a bar to other visas of 3-10 years. I have read of cases here where denials and bars were imposed for positive tests for marijuana.

I do not know how long it stays in the system to show up on a blood or urine test. You could always re-schedule the medical and interview if someone can tell you how long it stays in the system

As to why? Could be just one of those dumb 17 year old things. It is fairly easy to find reasons for visa denials on the internet. How does he feel about moving to the USA? Just reference for the future medical exam.
