Firstly, let me apologise for not including an "other" option in the choice of carrier - my bad. Please specify any other airline you might use.

For me, it's gotta be Northwest. The reason for this is two-fold: they have very reasonable prices; and the in-flight entertainment system is top notch (they have that "on demand" system in coach that most airlines reserve for business class).

United sucks. Period. They don't like me, and I don't like them.

Northwest gave me good service the couple of times I flew them.

For going to the Philippines, it's Philippine Airlines, because I hate flying, and they give the most direct service, which means the shortest flight. For the 30 or 40 dollars I would save by a less direct route, it simply ain't worth it!

Ditto. I've used them 3 times and on EVERY occasion my luggage hasn't turned up at the same time as me. Never again. It's a shame, because their "Economy Plus" seating is very reasonably priced, and makes a world of difference in terms of leg-room for a big guy like me.

For outside of North America travel, British Airways (recommended by Bro. Joe and Sis. Lily Daniel, as well as their son John Daniel)--and also best option for travel to India from BWI!

(also, as I've had bad-to-catastrophic experiences flying with US-based airlines off the continent....)

For domestic-US travel (also US to Calgary), Delta or American--due to United charging unreasonably, few other US-based airlines flying to Calgary and Air-Canada being almost useless (no nonstops from where I've been located).

When I fly to the Charlotte, I always fly US Airways because it's the only airline that flies directly to CLT. I am happy with their service too. It's usually €200 more expensive, but I am willing to pay that rather than having a 4 hrs. stopover in Chicago or elswhere.

When I fly to other places outside Europe, I try to combine good service, flight times and price. To Australia for example, I flew Quantas once - worst long distance flight ever. From then on, I only flew Emirates to Australia and they are great and offer good prices.

In Europe I don't care what eairline I fly with, since nothing is longer than a max. of 4 hours.

SAS, KLM, Lufthansa, or British Airways to Europe.

In the USA, Northwest or Alaska.

Delta and Northwest because I accumulate frequent flier miles with them.

Delta is also the only airline that has direct flights to Ghana...can't beat that

I think you ought to include a selection of whether flights are predominantly national or international, it makes a difference as to carrier selection, for a multitude of reasons.

For short haul, I would always choose the cheapest airline. Anyone can put up with cramped, overcrowded planes for 3-5 hours without too much discomfort.

For long haul, I used to choose KLM because they flew out of my local (regional) airport (connecting via Amsterdam) and their entertainment selection was second to none (the food was "interesting"). As I get older, I now prefer the much more comfortable and luxurious American Airlines seating, the food is better than most others. the entertainment is very good, the service is great.
