Hi. I am new here and have been busily reading all the interview links for the Montreal embassy/consulate. My husband and I have been married for 2.5 years. We filed our paperwork last february and we now have all the paperwork done. Our final stage, the interview, has been scheduled for March 30th. I am scared. I am so nervous I can't sleep and barely eat. I think I'd be okay if it was straight forward. But we have a bit of a hitch that freaks me out. I had been living in the States with my hubby, and before we filed our paperwork we made a trip back to Canada to visit my family. On our way back in, I was given an expediated removal because of lack of documentation. Anyone have any ideas on the effect this could/may have. I'd really appreciate any responses, including what to expect in Montreal. Thanks very much!

I forgot to mention that we have a nearly 2 year old daughter together as well, she was born in the U.S.

I just went through Montreal for my K1 visa. I know this is a different visa than yours, but the people there were pretty nice.

Check out the Canada forum uunder the Regional Heading. I wrote a full review.

I think you should call Montreal first to see if you should bring anything special regarding your circumstances.

Then, I would make sure you are the first person there on that morning, like me. It makes life a little easier.

Good Luck :)

The staff in MTL are great and in most circumstances, as long as one has the paperwork in order its usually a successfull Interview. A few others on here have been denied entry into the USA and did not cause them any problems, BUT every ones situation is different. I don't imagine immigrationwould be to ohappythat one has been living illegal in the USA for the past few yrs. I think (not sure) that a CDn can spend 6 months total in the usa per yr. Might be best to consult a qualified immigration lawyer and explain the case to him to see what your options are.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We do have a lawyer. He filed for a waiver and some other things that pertained. But I am just curious as to whether you all think this will have any bearing...or basically, because we have all our paper work filed and in order that it would likely be okay. I am so friggin nervous about the whole thing. Thanks to those who have responded.
