Medical tests and interview in Ghana

Hello to all,

I am writing because my SO is having problems getting his results back from the medical tests he took in relation to the K-1 visa process. He went in and started the testing process almost two months ago, and we thought he would get the results back in no time. However, every time he calls or goes in to ask about when he can get the results, they give him a certain date, which they always extend once it comes and goes. He went in yesterday to ask again, and was told that all he has to take to the "first" interview is his vaccination record and the receipts they gave him. They said that after the first interview, he should come for the results of all the other tests (physical exam, blood work, and chest x-ray) and the final vaccination. We had always thought that the sealed medical results were supposed to be taken to the interview, but they are telling us that the whole process has changed. He went to the Akai House clinic for the vaccinations and the physical exam, and to Medlabs for the chest x-ray and the blook work (because the people at Medlabs said that the process had changed and he could get the chest x-ray and blook work there). We don't know whether these people are telling us the truth or not. I am praying that I will be able to get through to the embassy today and ask them directly because we are so confused by what is expected.

Can anyone offer any advice as to this problem? They keep telling us that the process has changed, but it seems crazy to me that the embassy would want the medical results AFTER the interview. Please help--I don't think I can take any more of this craziness.

I just replied to your PM but I will post here for other people's benefit.

There are (as of this time) 2 places to get the medicals done: Akai House and Holy Trinity. You can only get the vaccinations at Akai House.

A lot of people like to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get the medicals and vaccinations at 1 place. My advice, take the extra step and get ONLY the vaccinations at Akai House. There have been previous, no longer active members here who have had trouble getting medicals from Akai House. At Holy Trinity, they know what they are doing and do not delay the medical results.

I take it your SO went to Akai House. My stubborn husband did the same and we had a similar problem. The thing is, I'm like a tornado when I get going. He has to be in their face and GET the medical before he goes to the interview or he'll automatically be sent packing. I also recommend you email acs at the embassy and try calling acs to file a complaint that Akai House is withholding the medical. I called Akai House as well (much to Bassi's dismay) and I pitched a high holy American b***h fit!! Bassi got his medical, but it took some work. The reality is, your SO needs to be made to understand the urgency of him getting the documentation in a sealed envelope to take with him and the results if he doesn't have it. I remember Bassi going down there one day and just sitting and waiting. It's Ghana baby!!

It's one of my recurring nightmares and I'm convinced they have my pic up on the wall in their offices at Akai House! That's okay though, Mr. Ray at Trinity says I'm welcome any time. :D

HAHA! :D

I can't believe all of the trouble we have to go through to get something so simple accomplished. Thank you for your advice. I emailed both the consulate and the ACS and will call in a few minutes when they accept calls. I also got the number for Akai and will politely request that they give up the goods to my honey :)

Good news to report--

Right before I was going to call the Embassy and Akai House, my SO called me and told me he was waiting at Akai for the results. He said he had called them and the doctor who examined him told him that he was "sorry" about mistakenly telling him yesterday to just take the vaccination card and receipts to the interview. He said he was not aware at the time of the fact that my SO's results were ready to be picked up. So my honey went in and got his envelope today! I was so happy to have this problem resolved, even though I spent most of the morning PMing you guys and writing e-mails to the Embassy.

Thanks again for all of your help!

Jamie

Great news!!

I don't think your emails were in vain though. I think it's important that we notify them that Akai House (which is the only clinic authorized to do the vaccinations) gives their immigration clients a very difficult time and have even refused them what they are being paid for completing. Even if the embassy doesn't do their part, we've done ours in notifying them of the injustice.

Just want to chime in and say that we had such a great experience with Holy Trinity! It's a nice place, nice people, and professionally run. They have a nice garden and fountain in the waiting area, too. So for anyone facing this in the future, definitely go to Holy Trinity.

Akai House people were mean and inefficient all around.
