Hi

I received my Packet 3 this morning from London :dance:

The instructions are laid out nicely but as always, there are things that require help from VJers. I have the following questions:

1. STEP ONE says I have to return the DS-156 x2, DS-156K, DS-230-Part1, DS-157 as soon as possible to the US Embassy, London. Do I send these forms WITH OR WITHOUT the 2 photos?

2. There are two DS-156 forms which are included in the packet. Do i use them or must I fill them online to generate a barcode?

3. Those of you who recently had their medical done, can you please give some idea about how long does the medical take, from the time you enter the premises to the time to you are free to go?

Cheers!

Jahan.

You stated that you got your medical done in November.....Did you go to a doctor whose name was on the list sent from the Packet 3? They are the only doctors that the Consulates will accept. Believe me, I checked this out because I have to travel 500miles to the closest doctor that is on that list...........{{{HUGS}}}

Unless the Packet 3 is different from each country....mine stated to return the DS-230 Part 1 immediately. And I sent the checklist soon as I had the necessary documents. And the DS-156 x 2 have to be filled out but not signed and brought to the Interview. Like I said unless it's not the same for each country. I am from Canada.........{{{{JUGS}}}}

Yes I had my medical done by the only doctor you can go to in queensland and I had information sent to me before I had the medical by email from the sydney consulate so its all okay believe me.....It cost enough to have it done...in total it was about $450 which included the doctors fees,blood tests at pathology and a chest xray which was just under $100 alone :thumbs:

I'm glad you don't have to get it done again..........these doctors give creedance to the saying 'it will cost an arm and a leg!!' ;)

I am from UK and I have to return all the forms which I have mentioned in the original post.

There are many VJers here from the UK and hopefully I will get a reply from them. I know James of James&Miranda sent their Packet 3 just a few days ago so hopefully James will have answers to my questions.

Still waiting,

Jahan.

This is Miranda so I'll answer what I can and hopefully James can fill in the rest when he gets on next. I do know you don't send the photos now, you take those with you to the embassy. All you send back now are the forms they sent you (DS 157, 156, 156K, 230, and checklist). I'm not sure about the whole online barcode thing, I think what James did was fill that form out online and print it out with the barcode and send it back, but we'll just have to wait and see what he says. We'll be as much help as we can! :)

I did the online forms and when I got to the embassy for my interview the lady at the first window asked me "why do you people not fill in the forms that we send you" I told her that it says on the embassy website to use the one on there but she said it is more paperwork for us to do (I guess it is because it is double side print in the one they do send you)

Hi,

1. Don't send any photos with your forms, you just bring 2 with you to the interview.

2. I filled out the online version, as did many people on here, so you should probably do that. I dont think it will matter if you use the one they sent you, but apparently it takes longer for them to process that way, whereas the online form is easier for them to use. So use your best judgement on that one.

3. I didnt actually notice how long mine took, id say over an hour though. between 1 and 2. I also got a taxi from Euston station there and back, cost about £5 each way. Easier than messing about with the underground or walking i figured. You can wait in their waiting area as long as you like too, and they have coffee and drinks. There are also loads of cafes and shops outside if you wanted to walk around.

Hope I answered what you wanted to know, if not let me know. I'm on msn if you use that, or just send me a private message.

:)

~James

Thanks James, that was really helpful. I have filled the online version of DS-156 showing the barcode. I would think that this should make things easier for them since the barcode is already generated.

Looking forward to send the Packet 3 tomorrow!

Jahan
