Vaccinations in Bogotá

Anyone who has been through the embassy here.....

We just received Packet 4 and I am concerned about the (insanely long) list of vaccinations. Obviously we are worried about $$ since this is all a long, expensive process--and we still have flights to buy (hopefully)!

Is the cost of vaccinations included in the medical?

If my fiance cannot locate his vaccination records, can they do a test to determine which he has had and which he needs?

Is it possible to request waiting to get vaccinations until arrival in the States, where they may be cheaper and because I have heard that they are not really needed until AOS?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

The vaccinations needed for his visa are MMR, TD and varicella, he needs to get them before the interview and they are not covered by the medicall fee. As far as I know the doctors handling the medical exam will not do any kind of testing to see which vaccines he's had already, in fact, they have denied a lot people who's shots were older than a few weeks saying they were "too old". Many of us agree that it's just a game they play to get more money out of each person getting their medical, that way they have to pay extra to get the vaccines at their office.

If your fiancé doesn't have any records of his vaccines or if he got them a while back the best thing is to get new ones. He can call the doctors' offices to find out how much each one charges and then call his local Red Cross to find out how much they are there. If he decides to go to the Red Cross to get them, remember that these cannot be more than a couple of weeks old or they might reject them and ask him to get them there again.

Thanks as always Diana! He was going to try to go to the Dr this Thursday, so I will encourage him to look into the Red Cross route. Our appt is for May 11, less than 4 weeks, so I don't know.....

What if he waits and can't get them, or doesn't wait and pays through the nose? Is it difficult to get into the Red Cross to get them done?

The vaccinations are not in the cost of the medical. Go to the Red Cross to get them, but make sure the shots are given within a few days of the physical. the doctors love to call them outdated and have them done at their office. dollars in their pocket and kinda like extortion.

Thanks a lot guys. I will tell Fernando to not schedule his physical just yet so we can look into the Red Cross.

We'll be fine if he ONLY gets those 3 vaccinations?? Hard to believe.

Since a k-1 has no vaccination requirement, are you all saying that Bogota requires the immigrant visa vaccinations for the "K" visa?

YMMV

Here is the link for the Cruz Roja Bogota:

I will be looking into vaccinations there.

But I am confused--like the poster above says, isn't it true that vaccinations are NOT required for K visas????

Yes, the doctors in charge of the medical in Colombia won't give a green light unless the beneficiary has all the needed vaccinations, and I believe they're starting to ask women to get the HPV even if it's only needed for AOS at this point.

I have tried to communicate with the Red Cross for weeks and coincidentally I found it the night before the appointment in el Centro Andino first floor. The Red Cross in el Andino direct number is 621 3111 ext. 123. They said that they have trouble with the number listed on their website. They have very long service hours. It was something like from 9:30 to 9:45 but call first to confirm. They gave me a price list of the three principle vaccines needed and it ended up being more expensive then having it done with Dr. Roa. The prices at the red cross are the following: Varicella 102,000.; MMR(triple viral) 25,000.; TDap (DPT)80,000.; and el carnet Internacional 4,000. While with Dr. Roa these three came out to 203,000. Dr. Roa uses a group in the same office builidng named IDE(Imunologia y diagnostico especializado) and their number is 214-9403 if you want to compare price with them and the red cross in the future, since my prices will eventually change. this groups also has another office at Cra. 9 #48-40, consultorio 402 and telephone 570 0028 0r 570 0029. I don't see why Dr. roa shouldn´t accept vaccinations from the other office that's not in his building or in the fact the other female Dr. Just added this info. in case this second address is much closer.

My husband said that the exam went well. The doctor was fine. No complaints on his part. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

We were given: Two hands to hold. Two legs to walk. Two eyes to see. Two ears to listen. But why only one heart? Because the other was given to someone else. For us to find.

Leidys had her vaccinations earlier this month. I'm hoping we don't have to repay for these vaccinations that she has recently recovered from. I agree this is buiish!t, but we seem to just pay pay pay... :(
