Senting back passport to the embassy

Hello i have an question for anyone that could help. My fiance had his interview on March 15, 2009 and they told him that it would be 1-3 weeks and they would call him to send back his passport. During the mean time we been emailing the embassy and calling the DOS (Department of State) for updates. Last week the DOS told us that our case was sent back to them for security clearance and won't tell us anymore. Well today my fiance got a phone call from the embassy requesting his passport. What does this mean?? Are they getting ready to issue his visa and what about the DOS said??? We don't know what to believe! We are happy that they called but still very confused! Can anybody tells what to do or to think right now! Thanks so much all your help!

To my knowledge there is no bad reason they would ask for it. Only good ones.. If they needed more time they wouldn't ask for the passport.. (I don't think...) If they were going to deny you, no need for the passport either. So I think you should be happy about this request....

I am trying to remember if someone else posted that the Embassy requested the passport and the DOS hadn't finished their part so it was still delayed.. so it took a while longer... but knowing that 1 out or 2 agencies that need to complete their process is done, is 50% better than NONE!

Good luck... Hope someone else here can give you more information. They kept my husband's passport and told him he was approved from the day of the interview, and I never called the DOS even once, so this is not my strongest area...

My husband had his interview on 2/10/09 the embassy did not keep his passport and said that they would request that it be sent when needed. On 3/4 they called and requested the passport. He had his visa in hand on 3/21!! He entered the USA on 3/26!

I only emailed the embassy during the time. I never called DOS.

You can expect anything. I think that if they are requesting the Passport maybe its near the end. They kept fiance's in November and he was approved March 30th, and be in my arms soon

I think it means they are ready to issue the visa. thats why they called him and asked for his passport .

Cause i think if they are not ready now to give him the visa so why they called him ??!!!.

Well I got great news! I emailed the embassy and they responded to me with this:

Dear Madam:

Our records show that we contacted applicant to send the passport to our office by the DHL courier mail. We will process the case to conclusion once we receive the passport.

me the other guy were with me at the interview this guy and simsim cr1 and i know another guy got his visa 2 weeks ago and he said its a good month i am only a fried cos i know a guy here they told him send the passport then puted him on ap or rp again ur prayer plz and my prayers for u all

Once you are finished your interview you deal with the Consulate, not DOS. Unless there is AP I believe.

I would say that you are just dealing with the Consulate and they are going to issue that VISA..
