Ok as i prepare to head back to Canada for the first time Thursday, I CANNOT find my passport... I have looked everywhere in my house. It may have been left behind at our old place, I dont know.. I cant remember the last time I used. I've found everyone but mine..

Are they still letting people crossing by land with out passports?.. I have my GC and Texas Drivers license...

You can use your unexpired GC to enter Canada, as well as return to the U.S.

Take your birth certificate and driver's license as further ID if needed.

You can go online to find out the deadlines for needing a passport. I'm sure it's not until June or July, but you could check to find out for sure.

You should be ok with with your birth certificate plus driver's license or state ID and green card until June, when the passport rule comes into effect at land borders. See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html and http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/whti-ivho/doc-eng.html.

The deadline for requiring a passport to enter the US is June 1st. You will still be able to enter Canada without one as long as you can prove your citizenship (birth certificate) and use the green card to re-enter the US. Good luck on finding your passport.

I will add, however, if you are flying into Canada you will need the passport for international air travel or they won't let you on the plane. Hope that doesn't cause you to become stressed again.

I have never used it other than getting my k1..

it still has my I-94 in it.. I'm gonna check my wife's car, that's the only place I can think of..

You can always reapply for your US passport. You can get that 2 week option. It took my hubby about 2 weeks to get his.

Lost his CANADIAN passport

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Oh wow, I didn't realize they were going to do this on the land borders too. Guess I don't follow up on it that much. I'll be flying to Detroit at the end of June and driving over, so good thing I've been accustomed to carrying my passport with me when travelling.

I did this even when I had my Green Card, I'd still take both, but still didn't realize it was going to be mandatory now. I have coworkers and friends ask me from time to time what it takes to get across, would hate to say they don't need passports and them finding out the hard way that they would...

passport is prolly not gonna be found... Called the border and they said drivers license and GC.. its a tiny crossing Im sure the guy will be working when I cross haha..
