Congratulations! I'll see you there! I'm there for my own oath at exactly the same time on the same day.

I was told by the interviewer who gave me the oath letter that i might need to anticipate being there until 11, maybe noon depending on if I stay to sort out other things after the ceremony... beyond that I don't know.

Jamie

Propper dress code = smart dress, in light of the seriousness of the event.

Do we HAVE to stay 7am until noon? No.

The actual oath ceremony (with speach etc) is about 2 hours normally (So we'll be "done" by around 9am) however there are usually desks there to sort out things like updating your status with the SSA and applying for a passport, registering to vote etc etc - if you choose to stay and take care of those things too while you're there - then you will be there until noon.

Jamie

What is SSA?

I thought we could apply passport in any US post office.

You can definitely apply your passport at the post office if you don't want to wait around. But you will need to go to SSA first before you apply your passport because you have to mail off your original naturalization certificate with the passport application, which means you would be without it for about a month.

SSA = Social Security Administration, where they issue your Social Security Number, you will have to update with them your new status after you get your naturalization certificate, which is changed from Legal Permanent Resident into Citizen.

How long have you been here (U.S.A.)?

"But you will need to go to SSA first before you apply your passport because you have to mail off your original naturalization certificate with the passport application"

We get the original naturalization certificate at the oath right? we go to SSA is just for getting status changed.

sorry for so many questions I have asked, I am still in College, the US immigration system really confused me..

thanks

Congratulations to both of you.

By oath ceremony, do you mean you went to the justice of the peace? If so, that's the same route I plan to go in a few months. Any advice?

Well... I'm not eligible to file until next year. But I've heard the details of oath ceremony in Houston. It's about 2000-3000 people all at once. The location is at a school stadium that can contain the amount of people, not at justice of the peace, don't think all people would fit in the little court house either. What kind of advice do you need?
