Hi all,

I´ve been looking for info related to my questions but have been unable to find a definitive, country-specific answer. My apologies if this has already been answered.

Here´s the question: I looked on the Guayaquil Consulate´s website under info for packet 4 (which has supposedly been sent to us but has not yet arrived) and it lists ¨tax reports,¨ W2s and 1040s as requirements for the affidavit of support. Does this mean that all must be submitted, or that we can pick and choose which? The problem is that my w2s and 1040s have apparently been misplaced or robbed from my house. Are free tax transcripts going to be enough for the 134, or should I request a copy of my tax returns from the IRS for $57? And for how many years are transcripts and/or returns needed?

Any answers or hypothesis based on experience would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

You may either submit copies of your actual tax return and all supporting documents (such as W-2's).

OR

Copy of IRS Tax Transcript - no supporting documents required (such as W-2's) since that information is contained in the transcript itself.

Most folks submit 1 year (most recent year) return/transcripts unless they 1. Are self-employed or 2. Believe more would be helpful to their case.

Free tax transcripts should be enough. One year should be enough. I say "should be" because you are dealing with the Guayaquil consulate and I have read the worst horror stories about them. Also go to the Latin American forum and ask questions there. You will get up to date info on that specific consulate.

"Worst horror stories" is an understatement, as the OP & I have already discussed. The tax transcripts SHOULD be enough (if the idiot vice-consuls are bright enough to read them, which is doubtful). I suggest getting three years' worth, and bringing a full copy of your 2008 return (filed by this April 15), INCLUDING a copy of your W-2. The chief thing at GYQ, of course, is "proof of relationship," meaning that the U.S. partner MUST attend the FIRST interview. The OP is thankfully already aware of this, too.

Also, OP, do NOT wait for Packet 4 from the consulate -- they sent us an outdated one that arrived weeks late. I had to sit with the two versions side-by-side to deduce the differences. Download the one from the website, and use it.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

thank you SO much to all for your quick and clear (much more than can be said for the guayaquil consulate) replies to my question. i´m wondering what you all will make of a few other questions i have and sent to the IV section of the consulate and their replies. i´m going to post it in a separate thread here in the ecuador portal since it´s not technically related to this topic...thanks again everyone!
