My husband got his visa and is coming to me this week, he did not have our marriage certificate translated into enligish and I understand in order for the marraige to be recognized in the US, we are suppose to have it translated. Since he can get a SS number without a marraige certficiate (and hence pay taxes) do we really need it translated? Can we perhaps due it once he gets here as he does not have the time now to get it done in Costa Rica. Please advise! Thanks

if the consulate didnt' ask for a translation for the interview (surprising) and he's got a 10 year green card, you probably don't need it translated. If he's got a 2 year green card and he'll have to remove conditions, you may want to have it translated for that.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

What about you? If you are changing any of your stuff into your married name, like Driver's License, Bank account, etc., you more than likely will need it in English in order to show proof of marriage and be able to change your name on things.
