Birth Cert Translation

Hi,

I have my IR1 interview next week.

I have a Birth Certificate from Quebec.

I sent the NVC a recent copy of my BC.

The front is in English (with all of my information and parents info).

However, I read Shiri's account of her interview then looked at my BC again, only to find that the BACK of it contains a paragraph in French that describes the security features of the document.

Does this need to be translated? It has nothing to do with me, only with the printing quality of my BC.

Also, I have another separate version of my BC, an older one that has no french on either side, but it looks slightly different than what I sent in to the NVC. I sent them the newer, snazzier version.

Can I bring the old one in, in lieu of a translation, or do they want an original that is identical to what I sent the NVC?

Why wouldn't you just bring both documents?

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I'm currently of this mindset to try and cover every single possible base.

Do you think I am over-thinking this one?

I've written Shiri to find out exactly what part of her document needed translating.

It would be great if there was any other applicants who were born in Quebec who may have input into the translation part of it.

My first laugh of the day, and very welcome indeed. I guess that sometimes we all need that reminder, to just BREATH and RELAX and take things in stride. Thanks for the honesty Trailmix.

Even though I agree with you, I might get this thing translated regardless. A pain in the ####...yes. But peace of mind to also go along with it.

My birth certificate is also from Quebec and is also in English. I just noticed that on the reverse it has a short paragraph in French about the security features. I used this birth certificate for my K-1 with no problems and I did not have a translation of the reverse. I think the information they are concerned with it the actual birth identification information on the front so as long as that is in English I wouldn't worry about translating the French paragraph on the back. I had absolutely no problems - and no translation.

(I also notice that on the front of mine it says "To ensure that this document is authentic, please check the security features on the back. An English version is provided on our Web site: www.statcivil.gouv.gc.ca ." So, if you wanted to get a translation you could just print off that page and include it with the Birth Certificate .)

I'll do that for sure. Glad that someone else had the same certificate as me and had no problems.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't think to look at the back of my certificate as the front portion was in English. I went to the website and printed off the security info in English and it is now in my "interview" folder! Thanks for the heads up
