AOS for K2 to follow

I'm still a long way from this step of our journey, but I need some clarification, as a friend has thrown me a curve ball and I'd rather make 100% sure from you people who really know.

My son would go over to the US on a K2 (to follow) visa. He will be 18 years of age when he enters. Would there be a problem because he's over 18?

I was told that because he'll be over 18 he would no longer qualify as 'part of' our original petition and the AOS process would be very difficult for him.

Can anyone shed some light and give me peace of mind here.

Will you marry before he turns 18?

AOS is allowed until age 21 for a K-2.

AOS is allowed until age 18 for a K-4.

It doesn't make sense, but I didn't make the rules.

Yes, we will be married before he turns 18, and he will join us four months before he turns 19.
