Hi,

I have a question about using married or maiden name on the forms. My I-130 has approved and we have used maiden

name on I-130. Now our case will go to NVC and I know that on DS-230 they want to change wife's name to married

name. That is why my wife is changing her passport to reflect her married name. So now should we be using her married

name on all forms, hopefully it would not make things complicated. I was thinking to use her married name only on

DS-230 since this is a visa application form. Any suggestions.

Thanks everyone.

I think the best thing that you can do is call NVC and ask them. I don't imagine that it would be a problem using your wife's married name on the DS-230, especially since you'll have to write in her maiden name on the form in question #2 anyway, and they (NVC) are probably used to this kind of thing happening. It is my understanding that many times the visa (and the green card) will be issued using the name as it appears on the passport, so if she's having her passport changed, you should be okay. That's just my understanding though, so I think the only sure way to know is to call NVC.

I have kinda the opposite situation happening now. I've used my married name on all forms so far, but I haven't changed my passport - and I don't really intend to since I just got it less than a year ago, and I need it to travel during this process. I'm hoping that I'll eventually get my visa/green card issued in my married name in spite of my passport, but I'll just have to wait and see.
