Personally, I think we should bring the draft back and it should apply to both sexes. I think that would drastically reduce the number of conflicts we get involved in if everyone has to be afraid of getting drafted. But I think we should have a civilian service option like they do in Germany for pacifists or those that claim to be, so they can serve domestically helping out in nursing homes, shelters or some other volunteer organization to help the country out.

Instead of having the worlds most powerful military, we could try being nice. Ironic when the cost of a couple of missile bearing nuclear subs could send every kid to college. And with Iraq, we were the aggressor. If you are king of the hill, will always be someone trying to knock you down.

We are suppose to be a nation of all races, cultures, and nationalities, so any aggressor that attacks us would be killing their own. But we are not doing a very good job at being universal. Ironic that it took WW II to pull us out of a massive depression, but purely an unproductive action, why can't we have a war on being productive? Never money for that.

But in regards to women and technology, that brute physical force most men are known for, and this is only in general is not really a requirement. Women can withstand much higher G's and would make far better fighter pilots. Also industry has proven, they are more effective at mundane tasks like looking at a radar screen or sonar. Men get bored too quickly, so why not use women for these tasks?

Worse part of a war is occupation, that is where the apes are needed.
