Ok today I got an RFE related to my I-130 petition for my husband. I sent my tranlated marriage contract but not a copy of my Arabic marriage contract. Does anyone know if it HAD to be notarized at the American Embassy?? I sure hope not because I didn't do that and I have already sent a copy back with my RFE. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
we were told our marriage contract must be authenticated at the american embassy. we did this immediately after the marriage but remember to have the certificate translated by an approved translator or they will not accept it. i dont know what the ruling is for NVC but i had to have it authenticated here in order to change my name on documents including my drivers license.

They got my translation fine and seem to have no problem with it. The issue is with my Arabic marriage contract. My husband had it certified by all the appropriate people in Egypt. He had a seal placed by the Justice Ministry and Foreign Ministry. We didn't get anything done with it at the American Embassy. I hope this isn't a problem.

Betsy I know its to late now that you have sent it back in, but as was stated above the directions in Egypt were to take all the copies back to the embassy which could be done by your husband alone or both of you. As the marriage takes a while to complete we did the last step at the Embassy in Cairo my last visit Feb. 09 they then took all of our marriage papers, arabic and english and put 2 gold rings through all the copies. The cost of that was 30.00. Good luck to you.

I am going to hope and pray they take it like it is. In the meantime, I am going to have my husband get to Cairo to get it done. Thanks!

Did you take a pic in front of the Sphinx to prove you were there with hubby? If you can solve the riddle of it, that will be points in your favor as well. :star:
