You need to submit the paperwork to lift conditions 90 days before your current card expires. Good luck.

Just a quick question about thte further process.

I received my greencard in Novenmber '05. It is valid for 2 yrs. So what do I apply for when my current permanent resident card expires?

Thanks

Kat

You will complete the I-751 form to have the conditions removed from your greencard. You do this up to 90 days before your current card expires. So you will file around August/September 2007.

In addition to form I-751 itself, you need to submit evidence of your marriage from the period between your AOS interview up until the time you send in the I-751. They're looking for the same types of evidence you brought to your AOS interview. So just keep collecting the bills, the bank account statements, the health insurance papers, the Christmas cards addressed to both of you, plane tickets from your vacations, etc etc etc and when the time comes to remove conditions you can pick out a selection of what to send.

Normally within 3 or 4 weeks after you submit the I-751 you will receive a notice that says your status has been extended for a year. You can then make an INFOPASS appointment and take the notice and your passport to have an I-551 stamp placed in your passport. I was told the passport has to have more than 6 month before it expires or they will not stamp it. The I-551 stamp will provide proof of your status after your card I-551 expires. The stamp's only good for a year, so if it takes over a year to process the I-751 you will need to get another.

If you haven't done it yet I suggest that you apply for an unrestricted SSN card before the I-551 card expires. That can be used as proof of work authorization an unlike the I-551 stamp it doesn't expire in a year.
