Does anyone have experience with translating the Japanese birth certificate into english for the DS230?

I think this must be done by an official translator. Does anyone have any suggestions for an official translator in Tokyo area or how they translated the birth certificate?

Thanks!

No it doesn't have to be a professional translator, just need an accompaning statement from the person who did the translation. Some people translate their own. PERSONALLY and this is JUST ME, if I were an evaluator and the person who is applying for the visa is doing the translation I would think that there is a vested interest so would possibly question it. So to avoid that I went to a language academy and had our marriage certificate (it is in French) translated, yes it cost me $60 but I think it comes across better because a disinterested party translated it and they have the credentials to back it up. JMHO!

You may also want to chck with U.S. Embassy there in Tokyo, they may have a list of translators. Try to go on line for the embassy in Tokyo and see if there is a list posted on their sight. Good luck.

Truly happy!!!

New life, new adventures, and a new attitude.

This lady did our wedding certificate translation: http://www.masayogoto.com/indexe.html

She is in Tokyo, is NAATI approved and works for the Australian Embassy there. Not sure if she's worked for the US Embassy but the US Consulate in Australia accepts translations from NAATI accredited translators.

The process was very simple - I emailed her scans of the documents, she takes about a week to translate it and sends a proof. If that needs corrections she'll do it ASAP and send us the final copy. Once that's all complete you pay the 5000 yen/document fee directly into her Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ account.

(NAATI is the national translating & interpretating accreditation program in Australia .. I am not sure if there is a US equivalent)

edit - nm i found this: http://www.atanet.org/onlinedirectories/
