Just curious (haven't sent our I-751 packet just yet, but we're close) - will waiting more than a year for the 10 year card delay the citizenship process?? I think I read somewhere that you're allowed to apply even if you haven't been approved for the I-751, but does that mean the N-400 process will still be delayed?

Also, just curious - has anyone ever still been waiting for I-751 decision when the N-400 decision has been made? I might not be using the correct terms - sorry. I hope someone understands what I'm asking.

When someone apply for citizenship, USCIS has to gather all A-files, so when they realize the I-751 hasn't have a decision yet, they will have to first make a decision on the I-751 first, before they move onto N-400. They cannot not make a decision on N400 while I-751 is still pending.

And yes, you can apply for N400 even they haven't approve the I-751 yet, but if the I-751 is denied, then the N400 will automatically be denied as well. Well... I don't think that's actually going to happen unless USCIS can prove someone marriage is fake, so they can give that someone a deny. So applying N400 is going to speed up the I-751 decision instead of delaying it.

Hello out there I started this topic as a way to vent our frustrations out if you, like myself have been waiting over a year for your I-751 to be approved.

I would also encourage those who were approved and waited a year or more to explain what you did if anything to get uscis to move your case along.

Hi TiffanDai,

Like you I am still waiting for my apprpoval. We respond to our RFE but didn't got any reply so far. I have my 1yr I-551 stamp. I can't figure out what's taking them so long!!!!!!! Why would they have to wait for a yr and over to process a paper????? And how come other's ahead of me are being approved??????What is the difference? #######!!!! I am so mad!

Update: We have been assigned a Consitituent Service Representative that with our local congresswoman. She sent an email to USCIS on our behalf and their response was 'The case is currently with an adjudicating officer and pending at this time (as of 4/8/09) and you are welcome to periodically check for status.'

I explained to her we were well out of the processing times and we received a letter in Febuary stating our case would be resolved within 60 days, then another letter (after we hadn't heard anything within 60 days) this past week stating the exact same thing word for word what the first letter said.

If we don't hear anything in the next few weeks I may contact the Ombudsman. Has anyone had any experience with that service?

Sorry to hear about the long wait. If you dont hear good news in 10 days, Please contact the office of the Ombudsman. I used them before for my adjustment of status, and they yield a result fast. Google the USCIS ombudsman office, and then fill out the form

If you have any questions let me know.

Good luck

I perfectly understand that you guys are going crazy. If you consider becoming US citizens, filing the N-400 now will get things in gear.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
