hello all..ok im sorry but this form is not letting me post a new topic under my ID so im using my frineds..but here is my question

Ok I just got back from India after staying for 2months and applying for my wife i-130 in delhi. Now they just sent her a letter that they need a Affidavit of support from me to show at her interview. I dont know what to do b/c i dont have job now and before i went to India to marry her i worked for like 8months. i have more than 25k saved in my bank account from gifts, work and side work. I also live with my parents so i dont have rent. Now how do i prepare the affidavit of support? do i use my fater as co-sponser and if so then what form does he fill out for co-sponsor. i think i will have to fill out the i-134 form myself. the thing is my father really does not want to be a co-sponsor but if need to be he will. also if there is info online please assist.

thank you all for your input.

Your post belongs in the Direct Consular Filing forum. You can send Captain Ewok a PM asking about your account name--there was a recent corruption of the old forums and old posts can still be accesses.

Your wife will require an I-864 from you. It allows you to use your assets at a reduced value in lieu of income. If you do not have sufficient income and/or assets or combination, you may use a Joint Sponsor or a Household Member. Your father could be either or these 2 since you live with him (have you lived with him for 6 months? Count your time in India as 'living with')

Are you planning on going back to work? When?

What was your plan for the financial support, knowing that you needed to provide it and that your father isn't keen on the idea of helping?

Ok so now i know that i will have to fill out a i-864 form. Yes I have been living with my parents for more than 6months counting india. I am planning on going back to work but i have to find a job first. I will go back to work as soon as i find a job in my field. If i dont find a job right away should i start working anywhare? my father has a business i know i can work there. my parents may give me gifts of $10K each to show that i have roughly $50K in the bank. is this a good idea that can help me? If it happens that i will have to use my father as co-sponsor does he fill out a i-864 or a i-134?

thanks for you help.

airwarrior,

I think you need to develop a better understanding of the I-864 Affidavit of Support - paying rent is not held against you, but living with relatives is. Seems counter-intuitive, but that's how the law is written.

On the other hand, if your parents are willing to sign I-864As with you as your Household Members (have you been living with them for 6 months or longer?), it can still work out for you.
