Hi everyone, this is a question for people who have been through "background checks" at USCIS

Basically been waiting over 7 months, hubby called the other day the guy at CSC said file has been opened but doing background checks and cannot do anything until they have been completed. He said something about 60 days then hubby called again and he said 90 days. He did not tell us how long the checks have been going on for....to be honest he could of been making it up by the sound of his voice!! (i was on 3 way call and hubby said it sounded like the same person both times)

but yeah im wondering for people who have been waiting over 6 months and have been told they are in background/security checks (before they get approved) how was it for you and how long did it take?

I know no one knows how long it will take but just want to hear how long it was for some other people. Also could it be checks on both me and the USC or just me? Im hoping it wont take long......we are good people!!!

Hey, I'm in the same boat with you. In a nutshell, my husband filed my I-130 over a year ago and we got the NOA1 on April 16th, 2008. He filed the I-129F after that and the NOA for that was in June, 2008. Unfortunately the names in that were wrong and we didn't learn until 6 months later (December 2008) that nobody had corrected them, despite the fact that we reported it immediately. USCIS told us to ditch the I-129F because at that point it would've apparently just complicated things even more for us and so we did. In February we started to get worried because it had been a year since we filed out papers and we hadn't heard a thing from the USCIS. A couple of weeks later, after the senator got involved, we heard that our case was in the FBI name check / background check. That was about 2 months ago now and the last we heard of our case (after pushing and pushing) was a week or so ago, when we learned that our case is still with the FBI and nothing can be done at this point. However, based on my info, MOST background checks should be clearing out in June, the rest in August 2009. I'm just hoping we get to spend our 2nd wedding anniversary together, since we already missed the first one.

Oh and btw, the USCIS said not to worry until it's been a year. So on 16th, I guess I can start worrying - with their permission.

The FBI has a huge back log of background checks, and from a recent article they are working with USCIS to clean up the backlog. When they will complete this backloged name checks is anyones guess.

Name checks are a long process for some. There are many data bases they start with. If you don't get a hit on any of them then you slide through but if you are a hit it can take some time to prove that you are NOT the person in question.

Here is an example of one of the first entries and all the names in the public excluded parties list

Name "Abu Al-Hasan Al Madani"

Classification Individual

Exclusion Type Reciprocal
