Thank you for your prayers. I am telling you, every week I think, "Oh, this will be the week!" Then by the end of the week when I see it is not going to be the week, I get soooo depressed. I just don't understand why this is taking this long. I mean, the embassy told me it was name check. How long does it take to figure out who someone is or is not? My husband has already given up believing we will get the visa. FRUSTRATING! :(

I'll continue to hold you in my thoughts and prayers, miamiwife. Same here with the weeks. The embassy website for Syria always posts the updates on Thursday. I know it's completely illogical, but Wednesdays I, along with my fiance, am always so happy/hopeful, while Thursdays are horrible and only helped by chocolate or running around or doing something completely different. By Friday I'm usually back to hoping. I'm afraid that I am trying to harden myself against feeling - if I don't hope, I won't feel so sad. While that's not something I want to happen, I think in the last month hoping has gotten harder and harder to imagine.

Anyhow, it is wonderful and so encouraging to see posts from folks like Tammy, and to see that you (miamiwife) are holding on!

Honestly, you all are the ones who keep me going forward and believing that someday, someday it will come. What's the longest (out of curiosity) that you know folks have waited for ap on a k1?

I'm thinking of you Sibel. Your week will come soon...it must!

Hi Divorced

That is exactly what DOS told us, that we would be contacted by the embassy. And about three weeks later they contacted Waheed asking for his passport. Waheed was very skeptical at first as well and I had to call DOS three times and talk to different operators before he would even believe them. Then he was still skeptical, then the Embassy sent me an email and he had concrete proof in writing that it was real. Then he was still skeptical until the day I received another email from the embassy requesting his passport....... Finally, he got happy :P We all get messed with so much through this process that it is hard to believe when it is really happening. Whenever I got any good news, Waheed would say "Please Don't get happy", because he knew I would only get upset again. Hang in there and soon the embassy will contact you and you can "Get Happy". :luv:

peace

~kris

First of all, congratulations Waheed and Kris! You are another inspiration and proof that there IS an ending to AP h@ll. I have got to say what hurts the most is seeing people from your own embassy/home country slide through their interviews and you being stuck like there's no tomorrow.

Miamiwife, I sympathize with you not only because you are coming up to a year like I had, but because I FEEL you slipping away from belief that the visa will be here. IT WILL ME. I know that God works in mysterious ways, and that your love will never be unfulfilled. I know how hard it is to call and try to have a fake normal conversation all the while wondering who will say something first about AP, and how many times you've had that conversation. I know, because I was looking through my yahoo messenger logs and it was just pathetic. I sometimes had to lie to my husband that "updates" had been made, only so that he knows something is happenning. After 12 months I began to lose hope myself, I hate to admit. I told him ... I don't know about your visa, don't ask me anymore. it was the coldest thing I had said and it felt like sh@t, but it was the only thing I had left in me. I know how you feel, and I know how everyone else who are waiting feels, please know you are not alone, that there is an ending, and visas get issued without much pattern of time.

DOS is usually a day or month ahead or behind the embassy, most of the time not insync, do not get discouraged by calling them and do not feel like they are the ones making this life changing decision, God is, and your family, your life will not be broken due to a visa. I have not heard of any wth the except of one story where the applicant was denied because the applicant was committing fraud against the USC and it was discovered during the home visits. Other than that, for honest, married/engaged people, there is not reason for the visa to not be issued, so it will be, not matter how long it takes. Some people on visa journey, like Nouri had to wait over 2 years, some like Belinda 17 months, some 13 months, others 5. But they all made it with visa in hand and you guys will too.

I pray for you divorced and paciencia, for KI I have seen about the same wait times - 6-12 months. It mainly depends on the consulate country but as we are mostly all from asia/middle east here it is safe to say the wait is on the longer side.

Nevertheless, there is an ending and the Almighty is the ultimate decision maker. Please do not lose your faith and your dreams will come true. I have read that God/Allah makes 1 of three answers to our requests:

"Yes," "Soon," "I have a better plan for you." It is never no, and I know that through my experience with the visa that I was at about the brink of my mental capabilities when AP was dragging on. This is feeling is ok to have but faith and the knowledge that lawful and honest will always get the visas is a crucial element to keep in mind.

You are all in my prayers, the visa will come soon for each of you, Insha-Allah (God-willing).

God bless

Tam

AP: Over 1 year.

Visa: Nov 2

US Entry: Nov 13, Alhamdulillah.

Miamiwife, I'll pray for you too. May this late spring bring good news, or strength and patience. One thing I do (besides chocolate) on Thursdays after a no update, is to just try not to plan and enjoy life here. Like divorced said above, it is incredibly hard not to get swept up in thinking about the future - it certainly runs counter to my nature! But in some ways it just makes sense to keep going on with all the little things you can, to be active in work, study, service, family. Apart from distraction, keeping busy and around others reminds me that I am so lucky to know somebody who loves me and who I love. And while most things take work and still don't last forever (especially relationships), my motto is now to not chalk up a victory for DOS, and to make the most of it - to enjoy the conversations with him via yahoo, to take extra time in the evenings to be productive, meet friends, talk to my family ... all the things which I probably couldn't do if my fiance were here :). Sometimes talking with other immigrants also keeps things in perspective, too.. I met a woman at a cafe, a refugee, who hasn't seen her family in 10 years. She expressed the simplest attitude to life: Don't forget your loved ones. Keep in action, moving forward, and working for the good, wherever you be, with whatever opportunities you have.

That said, the uncertainty of AP is extraordinarily difficult on the mind, and especially hard on two people beginning a life together.

I'm really not sure what to say to you, except I'm sure you have the wisdom and spirit to reflect and know what to do. I'll hold you in my thoughts.

And thank you to Tammy, for your prayers! Your beautiful posts keep me going, honestly. You should write a book! Or just gather together the posts and publish :)

MIAMIWIFE! What sad news please hang in there I am sure it will not be much longer and your marriage will survive I know it is hard holding it together I feel like throwing in the towel myself but we have come this far so what is a few more months. My life is in total disarray I am a planner this AP drives me crazy if I had a date any date I could adjust to that it is the unknown with no plans ahead that drives me nuts. Please take a deep breath and know that you are not alone and your husband will be fine once he hears from the Embassy (F)(F)(F)(F)(F)
